Recommitted Paddy Dow [OOC 2023] explored his options, but stayed

Paddy Dow is worth nothing and will be offered nowhere near 400k over 3-4 years. He will be lucky to get a 250-300k over 2 years. If he leaves it will be for either more opportunity or a fresh start as he clearly has done very little at Carlton and hasn't remotely gone close to cementing a place in the team
Well summarised

Kennedy has really surprised me this year and with Cripps, Hewitt, Walsh and Cerra in the midfield they are locked and loaded.

Other clubs with weaker midfields may see him as an option but it would be based on what he could become, not what he currently is.

Richmond tried to get him before and our future midfield has massive holes so he could be one we look to pick up on the cheap.

This year is pretty pivotal for him and his problem will now be he’s stuck behind some very good players in the best 22. Will need to take his chances.

I’d take him. Was good against Box Hill last week.
I’m told Carlton rate Stocker, Kemp and Carroll above him. So he may need to move on to get regular game time.
Yes we would definitely rate those three above him. Carroll just signed a 2 year contract despite not playing a game.

Dow is up for grabs and we won't get much for him. A shame but that's footy

Think the penny is starting to drop, though in the VFL...

Averaging at VFL (only 2 games)
Disposals - 31
Clearances - 11 (15 on the weekend)
Goals - 1.5

Would rather keep him, but if he was to leave there would be a premium if he keeps this trajectory...

Dan Howe averages about the same when he plays VFL. Couldn't find a taker in last years trade period and re-signed on a 1 year deal only to start the season in the VFL again.

Unfortunately strong form in the 2's simply means you might have some clubs interested. They'll only be offering the bare minimum though.

We got pick 43 for Lipinksi who had played the same amount of games kicked more goals and shown more promise at AFL level. Dow was struggling to get a game when you were bad and has shown very little. You will not get anywhere near a 2nd rounder for him let alone a 1st.

Dow has more talent than Lipinski but has never come close to showing consistent effort or smarts Lipinski showed at either level for the dogs.

Was bottom aged too iirc.

Early days in the VFL but is starting to show why he was a pick 3. Would have a real value of a 2nd imo and would be a smart high risk/reward pick up looking for a knock-off Dangerfield.*

*Assuming he continues trending upwards obv.

Considering we seem to make him look like a superstar every time we play Carlton, he may as well come to us.

I don't think VFL stats add much premium.

Charlie Constable racked up monopoly money possessions in the 2s for us, regularly named best on for us. Delisted and only got a gig at the Suns when they lost greenwood.

The only reason Dow would be considered by any club atm is that he has a fairly rare weapon with his explosive pace. His VFL stats are encouraging because he may be showing growth in his game.

His value atm is sort of irrelevant. He will get an opportunity at some stage this season at AFL level and how he preforms will determine that imo.

With all due respect, that is ridiculous.

He's been in the system 5 years and hasn't cemented a spot, plus he's out of contract. He's barely worth more than Shaun Grigg.

He's barely worth more than Shaun Grigg TODAY.

Just to be clear I'd take Lipinski over Dow right now. Take a decent reliable level over unfulfilled potential

Lipinski was a seagull vs the Eagles.

What are his talents that posters speak of? I have watched a fair bit of him and I really don’t see it. He is a below average kick, below average decision maker, not lightning quick, not a great contested player, doesn’t seem to excel in the air, defensive work is below average and doesn’t hit the scoreboard. What is he good at?

Contested ball is good. Very quick out of congestion and his handballs are very good.

The other bits are fair.

I never thought I'd see the day where Richmond fans are rummaging around through Carlton scraps for a player who can't get a game for us haha
Shaun Grigg wasn't that long ago

How bad is his kicking really? I keep reading he's a butcher of the footy, but that doesn't always stop inside/clearance midfielders making great careers if their other strengths are good enough.

There's been a lot of top level inside mids over the years who haven't had the greatest strength being skills by foot.
Inside mids are often hacking kicks out of congestion. Dow tends to burst out of congestion and find himself in the clear then hack the kick anyway.

His actual biggest issue though is that he can't find a way to get involved in the game outside of stoppage work
