Being reported that Gil has approached Paddy to ask him to join the AFL Commission as a current player, club captain and President of the AFLPA.

Interested on where we all sit with this approach. The Commission by its nature is meant to be made of independent members.

Is it reasonable for Paddy as the President of the AFLPA to be on the commission or is it impossible for him for be truely independent?

Here’s the current members on the Commission for reference;

The Commission is a joke, a rubber stamp for the Admin. Mr Goyder needs to follow Gil out the door ASAP & the renewed Commission undertake a review of every decision rubber stamped since the end of covid.

The Commission funds the AFLPA. It does not need an active AFLPA set of eyes on proceedings - if they want him, get him in. Make sure he closes the door on the way out.

What do the AFL commission want? Is it a current player, current captain or current AFLPA president? I can’t see that they’d need all three given that at any point in time the AFLPA president might not be a current captain.

So if they want the AFLPA president then sure, go ahead and ask Patrick.

If they want a current captain/player then ask the best available. That is, the most qualified. Surely there is a current player who has taken on-board some business studies of some sort. If that is Patrick then go ahead.

Absolute ******* madness. He’s a current player. How on earth can he be independent when discussing player payments or anything that will affect Geelong?

The AFL is seriously like some shitpot African dictatorship. Hopefully this is just another lame talking point to try to get attention off the women’s World Cup.

Dangerfield wants shorter games. Maybe to suit his style of burst play. But absolutely ridiculous for the fan that makes a big effort to get to a match sometimes, drag the kids, get home late from night games,( matches start too late) long travel. We’ve already shortened the game from 25 to 20 minutes. There should be a fans representation before a player who is only there for a short time, a fan is there for life. But Gil has no concept of a ‘common man’ he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and has been flaunting that ever since. He’s already holidayed in the UK them back to the Middle East this winter alone! The jumper clashes are still pathetic, umpires often wearing yellow at Richmond games, ‘push in the back’ is a disaster, no consistency on ‘dissent’ or ‘holding the ball’ but he is still paid millions to holiday around the world. A player could miss a once in a lifetime Grand final because of ‘protocols’? We could go on.

If Danger gets on and pushed his cause for shorter games then nothing is more certain than he’s pushing his own agenda.

Shorter games were absolutely trash during Covid and they will lose the fans in an absolute droves if they ever go down that path.

Lucky for us, I doubt the TV networks would ever accept that push.

The Geelong part I get.

Why wouldn’t they have a player to represent players, though

I actually don’t understand what role he would play on the Commission. Looking at the current members and their roles, he is severely under qualified in comparison to everyone else. Surely simply being a player doesn’t make him relevant?
