Jack Ziebell vs Patrick Dangerfield
In the grand tradition of making threads about your own teams players in the off season I have decided to make a thread about one of my favourite young players from my club and just about my favourite young player in the AFL to watch in Patrick Dangerfield and Jack Ziebell who IMO will develop into two of the premier 'inside' players of the competition.
I imagine this is one where Crows fans wouldn't dream of trading Dangerfield for Ziebell and Roos fans wouldn't dream of swapping Ziebell for Dangerfield.
They both have huge frames and are already very big for their ages and look like only getting bigger. Neithers courage can be questioned. Both are likely candidates to captain their respective sides in the future.
Dangerfield age 19, taken at pick 10 in the 2007 National Draft, he then spent all of 2008 in Victoria finishing school, playing in the TAC cup, ocassionally training with the crows in school holidays, despite this he managed to play 2 games for Adelaide that year. After turning up for pre season behind the pace because of staying in Vic, and also recovering from a car accident, he managed to claim a spot in Adelaide's best 22 for round 1 which he kept for the rest of the year except for injuries. He has now played 23 games and kicked 22 goals. He averages 5 kicks, 8 handballs, 2.8 marks, 2.2 tackles, 52.8 DT points and 62.6 SC points a game playing mostly out of the forwardline so far. IMO Dangerfield has a lot of pace over Ziebell and while Ziebell is a very good overhead mark himself, I would say Danger has the edge in that as well. His hands are every bit as sticky as Tippett's or Porplyzia's.
Ziebell age 18, was taken at pick 9 in the 2008 National Draft. He made his debut round 1 of 2009 and managed to play 10 games, kicking 2 goals before breaking his leg in round 12, putting him out for the rest of the season. He averages 10.8 kicks, 4.7 handballs, 4.2 marks, 2. tackles, 65 DT points and 60.4 SC points a game playing through the midfield. IMO Ziebell is a better kick and makes better decisions then Dangerfield.
So who do you think will forge a better career out of the next 200 odd games they play for their clubs?
