What happens now? Brisbane atm have 3 free spots on their list and have already used 3 picks.

for the sake of getting through the third round, i think we leave it blank for now and assume it is a PASS. Perhaps if Brisbane make another delisting on the 17th, we can go back and give Irel a retrospective pick before we go any further?

If you guys think it is highly likely Brisbane will free up another spot, i suppose we can give him a pick. Not like he would have taken Stewart anyway??

There's no way Brisbane wouldn't free up a spot to use that pick. Clubs traded for picks lower than that (Shane Birss?). If they move Voss to the veterans list it costs them almost nothing, so why wouldn't they?

fellas, you should have let irel take his pick. there is no way the lions wont be cutting at least one more player. i know we're keen to get thru but i think we should have let him have it.

I think this was the reason why Irel didn't really want to start the phantom draft this early. But I think it is a safe bet that Brisbane will use pick 38 - I don't know but I doubt a club has ever passed on that high a pick...at least not in recent years.

Yep, I think Collingwood passed first last year in the 50's, and that was after they'd already had about 5 picks in what was an average draft.

I'm on colleagues. I'll take a pick. Brisbane can't possibly go with just three picks in this years graft? give me some time to catch my breath and check what's happened today.

Brisbane Lions # 38 - Gavin URQUHART - 186cm-78kg - Morningside (Qld)

For me this is the most difficult pick to assess for Brisbane. Leigh has indicated that he wants to recruit running type players and I still have about 10 on my list worthy to be drafted at this pick that meet the criteria. Leigh has also indicated that the club will look to recruit some QLDers. I also feel that we will be looking to draft another Ruckman. However my assessment is that we may wait and get an extra ruckman in the rookie draft and concentrate on gathering some of the runners still available to us.

This is a contradiction for me because I do not consider Gavin a typical running type player. Only because of the way he plays. He wins the hard ball and has sufficient skills and awareness to distribute the ball without taking twenty steps to do it.

On last years performances Urquhart would have been taken by now. However he has had less than impressive year. But it can be attributed to the injury interrupted year and the fact that in a matter of just twelve months he has shot up 5cm without gaining any weight. Only twelve months ago he was a small potentially a gun midfielder gaining All Australian honors to a mid-size midfielder struggling to maintain consistency and keep away from the medical rooms.

Irrespective of his current status I am making my selection on what I remember from last year and the promise he showed to be potentially an elite hard ball winner for Brisbane. He has safe handling skills, good delivery from both sides of the body with an aggressive, competitive streak that may see him a regular tribunal visitor. Obviously needs to get on to the weights to build up his body for the rigors of AFL. He is another Academy graduate. Fits the Brisbane profile to a tee.

Was really hoping Djerkurra would slip through. Tossing up between 2 players for this pick, hopefully the other one is still there for my next pick.

Pick 39 - Paul Stewart

Tall utility that can play anywhere. Dominated SANFL ressies for a number of weeks late in the season, to earn a callup to the eventual SANFL premiers Woodville West Torrens. Very agile for his size and is a very good mark. Reads the play well and just finds the footy. Has struggled with injuries in previous years IIRC and has just now started to show what he's capable of. Only just turned 19 and has a lot of upside.

Not really. I saw him a couple of times on ABC2, pretty sure they were the Prelim and the GF. Got injured early on in the GF though. I tend to pick guys in Phantom Drafts I haven't seen as much of, as the ones I have seen more of I know more about their weaknesses and whatnot, so they are less appealing to me.

Pick 42- Shaun Grigg- Essendon (North Ballarat)

Goalkicking ball magnet who has somewhat suspect skills not too dissimilar to Brent Stanton. Has the same height, ball winning ability and also likes to carry the ball. I'd back in our staff to make him Stanton mark 2. Very happy to get him this late into the draft.
