What I would prefer to do is not commit to anyone publicly, get favourable side trades with the Dogs and Collingwood and then magically not bid on Daicos/Darcy.

Some hilarious commentary in here but the reality is we identifed Horne early in the season and there would be absolutely nothing that would stand in our way of taking him. We're not doing some silly trade down to pick 2/3/4 and get a second rounder. Why - because Horne is exactly what we want and what we need. Callaghan im sure will be a lovely player but you only trade down to take the player you want because he's availiable at a lower spot. There's a reason every other club would trade up and thats to get Horne. Outside of Collingwood who will take Daicos and the Dogs who'll take Darcy every single other team wants Horne. He's an absolute walk up start in round 1. To anyone saying his stats are no good go and take a look at the competition that this 17/18 year old is playing in. Its full grown men, many that have played VFL/AFL and many that have 10+ years of senior football experience. He's also had a number of games where he's been targeted as in other blokes are genuinely going out of their way to belt him and try to intimidate him. He's not playing kids footy like the other draftees. It's Horne all day long and we may as well start picking out a number for him and getting his locker set up because this thing is over.

Spot on. Its a pretty silly game to play to be honest. Why would we nominate Darcy when he's not what we're after AND Horne is the better player? You only nominate if the player is who you want to draft. Hypothetically if we did do this and the Dogs dont match we're stuck with a player we didnt want just to be "clever". it would go down as the greatest draft blunder ever.
