His form is terrible but starting him as a forward was strange and didn't help his confidence. He needs to be given a spot where he can settle and build his confidence and form. Wing would suit him if his fitness is good enough or half back (but there is more pressure to get your defence and ball handling right there)

Looks lost and disinterested.

I’m not sure if he or luko even know what position they’re playing until gameday , and even then it will change.

Carr needs to get this team settled quick smart.

Just put bergs in a position and leave him there. Same with luko.

What even was the point of moving Todd today?

Your analysis doesn’t say much for our new coach.

You had to move Todd up forward. That was the right call which changed the momentum our way in Q3. Whitlock had one of their talls, Luko was so non-competitive that Georgiades had 2 other talls on him. Moving Todd up there gave us a better look imo.

Agree regarding Bergman though, I'd just play him at HB for now.

I'd get Bergman playing third tall in defence and when he gets some form, try him back in the midfield.

He's one of our best players and he's been horrific all year.

2.6mil on Luko, Bergman and Soldo is actually insane
It's insane how quick people are to throw it in on our players.

Bergman has been one of our best players for a few seasons now. He had an interrupted preseason, and has not played that well in his 3 games. That doesn't undo his multiple good games.

Luko and Soldo I totally agree with, but it's pathetic that you group Bergman with those guys.

Right now, he is completely bereft of confidence and playing accordingly.
Dropped sitter in the middle of the ground last week plus multiple fumbles.

Last night, he fumbled that simple handball received in the second quarter than dished off a poor handball to Butters' feet, got caught numerous times holding the ball after being indecisive, and was too hesitant to jump into packs except for that high mark he took in the last quarter. He also looked bloody embarrassed with himself when he soccerred a free ball off the ground in the centre square 5 m, straight to the opposition.

He needs a serious circuit breaker. It's not the first time this has happened to him. In the first 2-3 years of his career, he often started seasons shakily like this, before settling into a groove when moved into defence. Bit like Lachie Jones in the way he goes to water after a couple of mistakes.

I think the experimenting with Bergman being flexible needs to stop.
He is a very good intercept, third tall defender. Play him there.

Find other solutions to our midfield problems.

I'm not sure how starting him as a forward is strange?
It's strange in my opinion because he's not in form, he's showing hesitancy, he lacks his usual confidence, he's not been used as a starting forward before and rather than let him do something he's likely to do better at, they experimented with making him play as a forward when he's in the worst form of his career.

Bergman is showing that form and touch is easily lost when you cant train regularly and at high tempo. He has had a succession of niggles ranging from heel bruising, ankle rolls , nerve sensation loss in foot which have meant he hasnt had continuity. Settling him , assuming he is fit may be the preferred thing until he is match fit and in form.

I have no issue paying Bergman heaps. He looked to be tracking as absolutely elite but is now shockingly out of form - but at least we know he can deliver on his talent.

Very different to those other peanuts you mention

Yeah it’s a funny one because I’m still not sure whether Bergs is a good flexible midfield option or if we are just so desperate for contested midfielders that we try and show-horn him in there.

Either way, the best way to kill a players form is to continually shuffle their position week to week.

Fair enough - I saw it as freeing him up a bit to play his own game. As a defender or even a mid, you're being dictated to by the oppo a bit. Playing as a forward means you make the play - figured that was the reason they tried him up there.

He's played there before so nothing new, but do take your point.

It was a bit odd. It was almost like he started forward as part of the midfield rotations, but that was bailed on before he got into the middle and was shifted straight back to defence when the Saints got a fast start.

How long did he stay at FF on Sunday night before Carr moved him?? 10 minutes.

Also if Aliir was at FF, who did we play at CHB at the start of the game? Jones? Lai?
