Picks one and two.

If you say Butcher can't handle city life or losing desire to play AFL like Nathan Ablett, I can say that Trengrove could destroyed his foot/ankle similar to Geelong's Egan and never play AFL again. This does not make any sense. That's why I don't comment on your statement based on this reason.

It makes as much sense as Trengove going home just because he is from South Australia.

I agree with you that Trengrove is a good player - but NOT yet a gun at this stage. MFC have Pick 11 and this frees up a pick on quality mid rather than Pick 18. Therefore, Butcher is worth considering at Pick 2.

If you are saying that Trengrove is a gun, I think you are overrating him abit too early at this stage.

Go watch or ask anyone who did watch him this past weekend for Sturt and they will tell you the same thing, Jack Trengove is a gun.

Butcher at Pick 2 based on "quality needs" :D

If we want quality, we will go with Trengove.

Butcher at pick 2 makes absolutely no sense when we can grab Talia, Panos, Carlisle, Black or Griffiths at 11.

Why take a risk on Butcher at 2 when we can get a sure-thing and better Jack Trengove?

This does not make sense. If Trengove could do a foot and ankle, why can't Butcher. Has he got some super strong ankles. Stupid analogy.

Again What happens if John Butcher hates city life and goes back to the country ala Nathan Ablett?

Exactly! This does not make any sense.

As mentioned, I NOT saying that Trengrove does NOT deserve at Pick 2 or MFC should NOT draft him at Pick 2 - "None of that". Trengrove is a good player and worth considering at Pick 2 - no doubt about that. However, if there is a choice, I will prefer Butcher "just" over Trengrove.

Hope this clears things up :)

This seems strange this whole Thompson debate. Just pick the best we can at 2 no matter where they come from.

Hell McLean is a local boy and he walked out.

Why we worried what might be, for christ sake we already have;

Bail QLD
Bell SA
Bennell WA
Garland TAS
Green TAS
Jamar SA
Jetta WA
Jurrah NT
McNamarra SA
Miller QLD
Morton WA
Petterd QLD
Rivers SA
Wonaeamirri NT

So 14 of our list are from intertate and we are talking about one player in the past 10 years that has gone home.

Take trengove as we are just as likely to lose a McLean to the Blues as we are to lose Trengove to Port or Adel!

Simply because of KPP needs due to Neitz's retirement. MFC need someone who can kick bag's of goals.

To be frank with you, Talia, Calisle, Black or Panos worth Pick 11 - definately NOT Griffins.

Griffins is an injury prone with OP problems :thumbsd:

And Butcher has questions over his kicking with attitude problems, what's your point? We'll just grab Talia, Carlisle, Black or Panos then.

With picks #1 and #2 we draft the best available and that is Scully and Trengove, we can address the KPF problem with the extra pick we acquired from the McLean trade.

Picks #1 and #2 = Best available (Scully and Trengove)
Pick #11 = Needs (Carlisle, Black, Panos, Talia, Griffiths)
Pick #18 = Needs/Best available whichever doesn't really matter

Butcher will NEVER slip to Pick 11. I think Richmond will get him at Pick 3.

I don't think Butcher at Pick 2 will be "F" word described by you. If Butcher turns like a Buddy or Roughead type, I'm sure you will be pleased :D

Trengrove on the other hand, if he leaves and MFC gets a stupid deal or even lose him for nothing, then I can say that MFC is "F" word described by yourself - not just the "F" word but add massively trillion times :thumbsd:

Pick 2 on Butcher thanks :D
Ur logic defies belief. Every year over half of the draftees move interstate. You dont see 30 trades a year happening because people are going back home. The most important thing is club culture, if players enjoy being at the club they will stay no matter what. This is highlighting by Brock Mclean leaving who didnt leave to be 'closer to home.' Ur logic suggests their location > talent. Idiotic

And Butcher has questions over his kicking with attitude problems, what's your point? We'll just grab Talia, Carlisle, Black or Panos then.

Yes, I agree that Butcher had a bad one lately. One or two shocking games carrying injury is abit harsh to judge him out of Top 10 pick. A good example is Judd, recruiters doubt his injury and look at him after that. If Judd was not injuried, he could be easily at Pick 1 rather than Pick 3.

With picks #1 and #2 we draft the best available and that is Scully and Trengove, we can address the KPF problem with the extra pick we acquired from the McLean trade.

That's fair enough as I respect and understand your reasons and there is no doubt that Trengrove deserve to be under consideration at Pick 2 and Pick 11 for a KPP.

Picks #1 and #2 = Best available (Scully and Trengove)
Pick #11 = Needs (Carlisle, Black, Panos, Talia, Griffiths)
Pick #18 = Needs/Best available whichever doesn't really matter

As I have mentioned before "NO" Griffins please :thumbsd:

Then we can take one of the other many options of KPF's, problem solved.

As I and many others have said before "NO" Butcher please :thumbsd: and "YES" Trengove please :thumbsu:.

That's fine Dez :D

Let's wait and see what MFC do with Pick 2. I can tell you that I will be happy with:

Pick 1 = Scully
Pick 2 = Butcher or Trengrove
Pick 11 = One of Carlisle or Panos or Talia if Pick 2 is Trengrove or Quality Mid (Whoever it is) if Pick 2 is Butcher.

No Griffins at Pick 11 or else I will be pissed :thumbsd:

Do Tim Harrington and Barry Prendergast sell the memberships in person? :p

I'm with you though...Trengove is a must at #2. I'll be honest, I'd grow to like Butcher if we got him at #2 but Jack has shown to be almost the best player in the draft.

KTLK there's no way Butcher is in consideration for pick 2. He's slid in most recruiters eyes, not simply for his kicking inefficiency (and whilst acknowledging he has had a few injuries), but his lack of 2nd efforts and more importantly poor workrate. Butcher in my eyes hasn't stamped himself as a worthy top 6 pick during any of this years U18 carnival. I wouldn't be surprised if he's felt so unloved that he's not picked up in this years top 10.

BTW - It's Trengove, NOT Trengrove

After Trengove's performances in the SAFL yesterday, he has certainly established himself as a potential "gun". In fact I'd suggest he would be in strong consideration in Tim Harrington's eyes for the No 1 pick. I know for a fact that if either Port of Adel had the No 1 pick, they would choose Trengove based on proven talent alone (with no home bias). Any discussion as to whether he is worthy of a top 2 pick was surely put to bed after yesterday's game. Not only can Trengove play inside and out, he's got leadership stamped all over him, has a workrate to rival Scully, has very good left and right side skills, has proven himself in a pressure finals environment against AFL sized bigger bodies, can push forward and kick goals and extinguished any doubt's over his attack on the footy.

His match saving grab and performance yesterday surely dictated to the MFC that he's their man. I'd go even further to suggest that Trengove is the perfect compliment to Scully, with both being 100% committed to getting the best out of themselves. These two young men, coupled with Grimes and Watts will set the example in terms of training, professionalism both on field and off it, in the mould of Riewolt, Buckley and Judd.

After watching yesterday's game, I'm convinced that Trengove in worthy of the No 1 pick, and wouldn't be surprised to see him have an AFL season to rival Buckley's in 1993.

I cant beleive there are people out there who still think Butcher is worth no 2.

I would rather Morabito, Martin, Cunnington, and even Rohan (plus Jack and Tom) ahead of Butcher.

Would be comfortable if we get him at 11 but I would prefer Talia, Vardy and Carlisle ahead of him.

If Talia is gone at pick 11, dont be surprised if we stick to the 'best available' strategy and go for another midfielder.

Pick #18 = Needs/Best available whichever doesn't really matter

This sums it up perfectly.

Im fairly certain Prendergast goes by this formula too.

What makes you say this? (not being critical - seriously interested).

Which part? Thompson going home because of Daniher or Scully and Trengove thriving under Bailey?

If you're referring to them thriving under Bailey it's more just a feeling than anything else really, both Scully and Trengove have been said to have set themselves for AFL careers since very young ages and Bailey to me just seems like the kind of coach that will challenge them to be better and better with nothing being good enough.

you cant still seriously be believing D.Martin come to us with pick 2.

Nah not really dude, i reckon the club that's got pick #1 will trump us...

Just pie in the sky at this stage i guess. But d'ya reckon if we put pick #2 and Paul Johnson on the table that we can upgrade to pick #1???

So it would be Pick #2 & Paul Johnson for Pick #1 which we would use to select Dustin Martin.

Christ, I should be a recruiting manager :p

You know what's funny?

My name is D. Martin.

I got excited for a second then :-(

I'd gladly come to Melbourne for any pick.

It's called dope for a reason.
