Word on the Brisbane Board is he is home sick. He's had an injury interrupted preseason and is playing reserves. Assuming this is correct, we'd obviously would be interested. But with no decent picks how do we get him? We can't use the PSD threat if Port finish below us. If Smack has a let down year would that be a fair swap? Given Brisbanes lack of big guys they could be interested.

No that would not be a fair swap. Smack is a fringe Crows player at the moment whereas Polec has the potential to be a gun midfielder. Unfortunately I don't think we'll have what Brisbane feel he is worth at the end of the year, IF he actually wants to come home. Obviously it's situations like this which draw more attention to the stupidity of Reid/Trigg, et al.

Sadly if he comes home he'll be at the Power.

I think it's a fair point; if Otten has a great year (the sort of GREAT year that would be needed to put him on even terms with Polec), then we'd be stupid to let him go.

Well maybe but if you want quality you have to trade quality. Pick 68 probably wont be enough.

I'm all for this mentality but how often does it actually happen? A pick in the 60s certainly won't get it done. I guess it depends on any of our other players walking out at the end of the year and we can get a good pick for them, and then on-trade to the Lions. But as you say that basically involves Smack, Otten, etc are not worth as much as Polec on the trade table, particularly if Port miss the 8 again this year as expected and they have pick 6-9 up their sleeves.

Same thing with Karnezis last year... Was stuck in the reserves last year and people assumed he was frustrated and homesick. Now he has worked his way into the seniors, you can't seem to wipe the smile off his face.

And yeah, even if Polec did want to go home. McKernan wouldn't do it. We've got a number of fringe talls such as Lisle and Martin. McKernan wouldn't offer us anything much more than those guys.

Otten doesn't fill a need.

Also, if I recall correctly, Crows were never willing to do a straight swap. They wanted Polec and either pick 8 or 12 (Longer and Docherty). I definitely wouldn't have done that deal.

GC could have got in the way of Brisbane....that didn't stop them from telling us how they were getting Tippett for nothing.

Either way though, they can look forward to it for the rest of the year (unless he re-signs earlier).

I tip us to be fairly attractive next off season. We'll have had another good year and we'll have a few FA's heading to us.
