Sick of these footy shows at the moment. You'd think Carlton won the match, Gerard Healey says they should have won. Not a single week do they give us more than 30 seconds worth of attention. Hawthorn, North Melbourne, Carlton and Melbourne get plenty of airplay. Followed by GWS and Brisbane. Can't stand it.

...

I want a new AFL CEO who basically comes in and says lets get rid of 6-6-6, get rid of the idiotic ruck nomination process, basically just roll the game back until around the time Gil came in and take it from there.

That seems contradictory.

Gold Coast currently have more rising star noms this year than the rest of the competition put together lol. And that doesn't even include Ben King and Lukosius who aren't eligible.

On the contrary, it’s practically their national identity.

I’m now getting PTSD flashbacks of every azzurri game in the World Cup and euro cup since 1990, I’ve lost count of the amount of fingernails I chewed through in those games!

in saying that Italian football has moved away from the ultra defensive style in the past decade or so

When’s the last time basketball or soccer — the two most universally-beloved games on the planet — completely overhauled its rules from week-to-week and year-on-year because they’re pathologically concerned about the product.
During my time as a football referee we pretty well had a new interpretation of the off side laws every year.

Basketball and Soccer have both had some enormous, significant changes to their rules and their style over time.

The problem the AFL has is that they are dealing with a supporter base wanting a return to the free flowing, high scoring product from an era where defensive strategy amounted to "beat your man". The game has matured so much defensively.

Basketball and Soccer aren't necessarily much older sports but they're so much more widely played and we're so much more professional earlier that they've tactically matured. Aussie rules is only just really getting there. Both sports have had pretty significant rule changes, they just happened a while ago.

Hell, if we want old style shootouts, we could always adopt the old NBA rule banning zone defence. Free kick against anyone marking grass and not a player. Welcome back 140-120 scorelines and 100 goal forwards.

The game will settle, and until then we'll still have fans demanding less defensive dross and simultaneously demanding no rule changes. The AFL will continue to tinker with the rules to try to achieve the best product they can while the coaches will focus on winning even if it's at the expense of the spectacle.

That game had without a doubt the worst umpiring I have ever seen. 38 Free Kicks to 15.

There was a point in that game where I realised that no matter what happened from then on, we could be a 10 goal better team, the umpires would not allow us to win that game. Just point blank would not allow it. A criminal investigation into match fixing should have been done. I've seen less corrupt fifa bids.

Remember the pat on the on the backside Lindsay Thomas got from one of the maggots. It was like an encouragement for him to kick the goal, which he did. And to think we lost by only about 10 points. And if I remember correctly Kenny stayed at home due to a very bad cold/flu so one of his assistants was in the chair. I’m not sure who it was?
Edit. I kinda think that Richardson stood in for Kenny.

I think the AFL jumped the gun on offering them all that extra salary cap space and 2 years of extra high draft picks.

I just remembered the game against Geelong where Charlie marked for a shot to give us the lead, and the umps allowed Selwood to creep up behind him and tackle him because of the 30 second rule that had never been paid in the history of the game. Then they made a big deal about 30 seconds to try to defend it, and it's been paid about 2 times since.

Edit: forgot to mention Selwood standing about 2m away the entire time, within the protected area. **** I hate Selwood. Why didnt they apply the Lindsay Thomas rule? When Lindsay was seen to be ducking for frees, the rest of his career the umps flat out refused to give him free kicks, regardless whether they were there or not. I only wish he would have ironed out Joel Selwood instead of Scott in that other Geelong game.

They hate us

They hate us
Just on this...I'm not sure if it's a hatred, more because we are a push over and meek and it stems from the coach.
Not turning this into a Ken bashing thing, but he needs to point out crap when he sees it like every other coach....being Mr Nice guy and telling the world how lovely umpires are after we get reamed doesn't help our cause.

The Crows might be off to the worst start to an AFL season in club history but all local footy supporters could talk about in Adelaide on Monday night was, wait for it … the servings of hot chips on offer.

The South Aussies thought they’d uncovered the biggest scandal since the Crows’ 2018 pre-season camp when — after Adelaide Oval announced it was lowering food prices this season — they found far less chips than they were used to on offer.

“Think it’s pathetic that the oval PR team did the big splashy spiel about making it more affordable while showing the food in its full size glory then neglect to let the consumer know reduced prices also includes reduction in portions,” she wrote.

The following day the Oval’s general manager Darren Chandler was forced to hold a press conference to address the matter.

Hodge and Lewis are still feeling a bit bitter about the way Clarkson moved them out of Hawthorn (I'd say it was a tough but good call at the time). Both have taken pot shots at Clarkson over the changes to HTB rule that he instigated. I think they would have stayed silent if their careers had finished at Hawthorn.

Anyway it's good to see Clarkson copping flack over this.
