I can only assume you don't know the reason he went home otherwise that is possibly the most insensitive post this side of 1870.
Keep reading the thread, post #440 doesn't quite beat it but is worthy in its own way.

i hope he comes back a bigger man ready to take on the monumental task because coming out the other side of it with a premiership medallion as Port's first Irish recruit has got to be worth that pain!

Everyone knows homesickness only applies on the 45 minute flight from Adelaide to Melbourne. Homesick over a 22 hour flight? Get real, that's like being on Pluto. You're never getting back!

I was about 21 when I first came up here...in Joh era FNQ, 3 and a half thousand kays from everyone I knew, it was really like being on Pluto...if my grandmother was sick at the time, like Daniel's grandfather is...I would have jumped on the first bus back to SA no ifs, buts or maybes

There is an awful lot of naiveté, nonsense and righteousness in this thread - he was homesick - there is nothing wrong with that and does make him less of a man. A terminally ill relative is fact probably was he left left Ireland 4 months ago and it is also the public face of the decision.

Before I comment I just wanted to clarify your post. Your saying he's less of a man because he's homesick and your assuming he knew his grandfather was terminally ill before he left Ireland to come to Australia? I'm not sure if autocorrect got a hold of your post.

Reading that it doesn't sound like he'll be back which kinda sucks, 'missed Gaelic footy an awful lot' he was only here 4-5 months.
Yeh sounds that way Sean though there aren't any direct quotes from Daniel and reporters are a big fan of hearsay.

When I first watched his PTV post-Adelaide trial game interview I thought he seemed a bit overwhelmed by it all. At the time I didn't think much of it and that he would adapt. But maybe it was a lot harder than he was expecting.

I thought he came across as though he was genuinely disappointed with himself in that post match interview.

Seems the reason for the return has changed a bit. Not quite at Grandad's bedside. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Im not feeling too positive that he'll be back to be honest. The fact hes signed to play gaelic footy what must have been 4.5 seconds after getting off a plane doesnt bode well in my view.

Would be tough coming from Ireland straight into the pre season we've had in Adelaide extreme heat etc! Family is Family! Will now be following kildare to see how he goes!

I didn't get that feeling and just watched it again. Just seemed to me that he didn't realise just how quick the decision-making had to be and how physical it was. I was at that game and it looked about a 50% increase in intensity from the internal trial the week before.

It was said in the interview he will play with kildare

You never know he's only young! Time will tell! He seemed like he could be a ripper player
Yep seemed a ripper lad who loved the club & was keen on the biggest challenge of his life which is what makes that article seem even more strange.

I can live with him turning his back on the club to be closer to a terminally ill relative but if it was just homesickness & he wanted back to play Gaelic not sure how I'd feel about that seeing as we'd likely have spent a fair bit on settling him in.

Might put us off trialling international players in the future.

The comments of his coach didn't fill me with any hope.

You get the feeling that there's a fair chunk of spin going on at one end or the other.

I hope it's theirs and not ours.

Exactly what I thought, Ford. He looked dazed in a way and pretty unhappy, as much as exhausted.
