Valve Confirms Portal 2 For This Holiday

Gamestop's listing for the title brings new information. According to the product page, the game "introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers," it reads. "Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game."

GameStop currently lists the title for Xbox 360 and PC. No PS3 version is coming. The title is due out on October 26, 2010, though that release date may not be final. It's also a full retail release. The Xbox 360 version is $59.99, while PC is $49.99.

Hells Yeah.

One of the greatest games you will ever play
Agree with this.

Unless an Orange Box 2 or something over 3 platforms is announced, I'll have to get a 360 by the end of this year as this game demands it.

Hopefully it's worth the full release price though as if there was a downside to Portal it was that it was just quite short. Would expect around a 10 hour game for the sequel.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Portal was very good but it was quite short, it was acceptable because of the fact that it was bundled with 4 other games though.

They'll have to stretch the campaign out a bit and the addition of co-op may prove intriguing.

These games are made for PC, I'd rather upgrade my computer seeing as Portal 2 isn't going to be Crysis-esque, it wouldn't cost that much.

Probably true Jabso, might have to look into upgrading my laptop, see if I can get some grunt out of it and have it run some games.

It will be running on the Source engine too, so certainly won't need to be specced out.

dammmmnnnnnnnnn no ps3 version :'(

portal was epic but around 10 hours (at a guess considering the price) would do my ****ing head in i think! would have to be played in smallish sessions to avoid burning yourself out, especially after a hard days work.

playing through a game like this in co-op could also prove to be one of the best experiences gaming could offer. especially if the puzzles are quite difficult like they start getting near the end of the first.

gotta say a lil disappointed :(

Meh, Portal plays pretty well on the 360.

Maybe there could be co-op specific puzzles too where you need a friend to help you get through it too :p.

Agree with Anthony_, didn't really have any problems with the 360 version, but some people prefer the controller and others the keyboard and mouse. Accessibility factors in too I guess .

Yeah I agree. I felt after the 3 or so hours of Portal were over, that it had been enough and anymore would have dragged it out to it's own detriment. Co-op should be fantastic, and I would love to see some kind of CTF gamemode where maybe one or more persons on each side has a portal gun. A 10-hour campaign of what was shown in the original however, would be a real struggle for me to get through. I'm not worried though, it is Valve after all.

It's still using the source engine? Goddamn, they need to get a new engine already.

I'll consider getting it on the PC.

No doubt but Source games bring mods and a lot of updates/expansions. Sure it is a single player game so it's not going to change much unlike Team Fortress 2.

Has xbox 360 got all the class updates for Team Fortress 2 yet? And do they charge for them?

PS3 haven't even got anything in the form of support, valve seemingly jumped off halfway through porting Orange Box to PS3.

Why do they need a new engine?

The source engine is powerful enough as it is.

It's getting outdated. It was powerful for it's time but now it feels like I'm playing an old PC game. It needs an upgrade to look and play like all the newer games IMO.

Well, Valve didn't port the Orange box to the PS3, EA did.

Your view is true in that Source has been around for a fairly long time and Valve should probably develop something new. On the other hand however, take a look at the Left 4 Dead 2. They've done some pretty awesome stuff with that game using a pretty old engine like the AI director and even the gore, which was pretty gorey (if you didnt get the Aus version).

I highly doubt thought that they'll bring out a new engine unless they make a Half-Life 3 or a completely new IP that's equivalent to a HL game.

They're working on Half Life 3 and a new Counter Strike game Noppo.

Half Life 3? I haven't heard of that, sure you're not getting it confused with Half Life 2: Episode 3?

Either way, if they do release HL3, it would absolutely need a new (or upgraded) engine.

I'm pretty sure they said the episodic releases turned out to be one big fail as they were taking as long (if not longer) to make than the actual normal versions (Half Life 1, 2, 3 etc).

Have Valve actually ever said that they were moving away from the episodic releases?

The next instalment in the Half Life series is episode 3.

I think I remember reading somewhere, that Valve wants the 3 episodes to be regarded as Half Life 3.
