Putting Bock up forward

Its a good idea imho, Port play a very small forward line so:

Truck - Tredea
Stevens - Westhoff
Bass - Motlop

Would work fine imho and it could allow Bock to go forward. Wouldn't mind Walker in to.
Bullseye.

No point playing Bock on Westhoff when Stevens could do the job. Who would win the Mr Puniverse competition?

Bock up forward would be fantastic for both Tippett and Walker, should he play. He would attract the best defender and provide the long option inside fifty.

I'm tired of this versatility bullshit, how about instead of a player that can player lots of positions averagely, we have a player that can play one position really well. I know it doesn't have anything to do with strings in bows and all that jazz the Adelaide Football Club has been having a collective ejaculation about for the past 3 years, but players that play their one position really well tend to beat their opponents instead of breaking even or doing ok, you can't have a team of players that break even, give a contest, do ok and have strings in their bows and give 100% and run and are versatile at being average. Did I miss any buzz words to describe an ordinary player in a positive way?

Bock plays one position really well CHB, and another not so well CHF. Sure hes an alright CHF, but he is an AA CHB.

He may be AA CHB but PA have no CHF, Tredea has the mobility of a snail and will probaly play FF. PA won't really have a KP CHF for Bock to play on and our backline is too tall to play for their small forward line.

If Bock doesn't play CHF then who does?

-Walker: Natural forward and very talented but making someone play the hardest position on the ground on their debut is too much.
-Sellar: I doubt you would throw a kid directly in from the magoos into AFL, esp when he seems better suited to the ruck.
- Jericho: He could play a Burton like lead up role, but once the ball hits the ground he lacks the commitment of Burton to try and hold it up. Once the ball his the ground Jericho goes missing.
-K-mac: his done.

Bock realistically is the only one that can play CHF, he played it last year and he is the best bet. He is a band-aid solution but he is the best we have.

A band-aid applied to a gushing artery rarely works. ;)

but is AA CHB worth more than a servicable CHF?
IMO no.

Especially this week considering Port only have one key forward of any note. Bock on Westhoff would be a waste given that Stevens or even a stiff breeze could do the job adequately.

Next week is the same and that is assuming Hall plays.

Perfect opportunity for Bock to spend a fortnight up forward.

Versatility is what gives teams an edge. Being able to adequately cover injuries to key personnel is important. If you can't do that you are sunk. Bock played CHF for almost two thirds of last year and was our leading goal kicker in the first half. He is more than capable of playing that position.

Normally I would say you don't borrow from Peter to pay Paul because then Peter is poor and people will take advantage of that. But in this instance, when Peter has enough mates to support him, I think it is logical to have Bocky up forward attracting their #1 defender which leaves Tippett and Walker with the lesser options. It's a win for us.

Don't underestimate Mickey O.
We've usually played Bass on O'Loughlin IIRC.

If Bock was on O'Loughlin we'd lose his rebound anyway given that O'Loughlin is pretty much playing out of the goal square now.
