I’m not defending him but we had our chances, all the players failed when they could have nailed the goals. Blame him for the crap but today had nothing to do with his decisions

Players keep failing in big moments because of the culture and philosophies Nicks has instilled.

It's a systemic cultural issues that stems from the identity and personality of the coach, which is why it affects the vast majority of the playing group

Came to see how the Muppets blame this on Nick's.

So many players fading in and out of the game, terrible in front of goal and some atrocious decision making.

So much confirmation bias by the CJ vocal minority.
The loss IS on Nicks; the Crows are as weak as their Coach!
They play how they are Coached --- BADLY --- tentative, no coolness-under-pressure, indecisive, no killer instinct etc.

All of the failings of Nicks as Coach were on display this afternoon.

Settle down, ROB destroyed Darcy Cameron in the ruck and Laird was clearly our best defender today......Milera however ugh.
Hinge was our best. RoB was still tapping to opposition players, fresh air kicks, stuffing up in general play when he should have just handball to the open player beside him and getting into our forward's way. If that's a "good" game from him then his baseline is very low (unsurprisingly).

And more particularly, because there are no consequences for it. Guys like Milera can be streaming into 50m with a minute to go and spot up Collingwood and nothing will be said.

No that’s silly. The worst thing would be to fail to make finals
If we fail to make finals Nicks is sacked and we take a serious look at our coaching staff and admin. We scrape into finals in the form we’re in now (unconvincingly) then the season is considered a success and we back the same coaching staff.

Exactly.

The biggest way it directly affects the players is that they are told they have made mistakes (I'm assuming) but are not actually held accountable for them.

So they know they'll get blasted for poor performances - Nicks blames the players constantly - but they aren't actually told to go back and improve your game

Result: players are worried about feedback (pressure on game day) but don't work through that to improve

I believed in this group in 2023.

Unfortunately too many are mentally weak and wilt when the opportunity presents itself. Is that coaching or the players? I’m not sure

Not enough impact in marking contests, useless around the ground, competes well in the ruck but couldn't tap to a teammate to save his life. On top of all that he's recently developed a habit of trying to take on tacklers and getting involved in handball chains. Just an awful footballer.

I don’t think that was that bad. The major blip was the kicking at goals. Rankin and Rachelle kick those and we don’t lose. With the style of play that both coaches were enforcing they wouldn’t have won.

Bullshit Laird was clearly our best defender 9 intercepts, 4 score involvements 27 disposals at 85.2%, 419 metres gained.

Yeah, that's why Gary Lyon mentioned at one point ROB late in the 2nd quarter had 10 hit outs to advantage compared to Cameron's 4...and just after he said that Rob hit our mid on the tit who won the clearance at a boundary stoppage. There's clueless then there's you.

Teams embody their coach and his philosophies

Nicks isn't a hard, tough, uncompromising coach that instills a winning culture.

We constantly shit the bed in these situations because Nicks is a loser that comes up clueless in big games/moments. That's the culture he's set, and the players follow

This is evident when we tighten up at the crunch (usually 3rd quarters), then when we're down by 4 or 5 goals, the players start to play on instinct and we come back, only to just lose. Then Nicks gets to say we were brave.

I know ANB had a defensive job today.

But, this is the kind of game we need him to stand up and be an on field leader.

Senior Premiership player with MCG experience

Didn't see much evidence of that today.

One reason we can't beat Collingwood is their on field leaders.
