Didn’t this “gun player stuck on the bench” thing start when they neutered runners?

I remember BT going spare. SEVEN minutes on the bench, they can’t get him back on!!!

Can’t remember the game

I think the games better for it anyway. It teaches clubs to rotate through other positions to keep good players on the ground. The way it should be.

i should also add the bench rotations is club driven, so if a player is trapped off the ground, the only one at fault is the club for its stupid rotation policy. So have no issues whatsoever with the AFL over this. Its the clubs fault.

Yep the larger benches and rotations has enabled the team defence style which some might argue is a natural evolution of tactics, but it hasn't made the game a better spectacle IMO. Nothing worse than seeing a key forward sprint off the ground after kicking a goal.

AFL should allow the return of runners with strict guidelines & the club get fined if a problem or if a real problem incident red carded during a game.

Will get rid of all these crazy signs.

I think it's more when the ball is stuck on the other side of the ground. You'd have to think that there's a lot of communication transferred from the players coming on and also direct from the bench when the ball and players are in their viccinity.

Yeah I remember it from pre-runner days as well. Usually the ball would be stuck on the far wing and they didn't want to cop being a player down for like a minute while the rotation happened.
