Kids these days are basically illiterate. Gen Z and Gen Alpha are the idiocracy generations. They'll be watering crops with Gatorade.
Bloody funny, but horribly true in so many ways.
My last stint full-time teaching was 2011-2013 inclusive, but I've been tutoring Years 9 to Years 12 students in Maths and English over the last 15-20 years.
I'm amazed and horrified both at how little they actually know, how they've been trained to be tech-dependent and how much they (students and teachers) have outsourced active learning and memory processes to Calculators/laptops. Not all, but most.

I had Year 11 students reach for their Calculators to multiply 30 x 10. I kid you not.

I showed Year 10 students how to multiply by 25 (well, provided they knew their 4-Times-Tables). They thought it was amazing. Magic.
Their brains have become inactive, utterly unused and lazy.

I've also been teaching mathematics (primarily to young adults) for around 20 years, and in my experience the kids coming through are no less capable than previous generations (and probably have higher emotional intelligence), but they have way more demands on their time and mental energy than used to be the case, and have learned to prioritise accordingly.

It turns out my various Calculus classes don't rank near the top of the list, who would have thought it?

When I was a kid, I was constantly told "near enough isn't good enough". Whereas nowadays it seems like near enough is a necessity.

Nicks doesn't see it, which is why Edwards, Taylor and Draper are languishing in the SANFL not being given a chance because Nicks prefers Murphy in a role he is pathetic at (AFL-level footy).
Michalanney (at his own request/initiative) just schooled Nicks and Murphy on what a defensive forward can do to a dangerous running-half-back opponent.
It's also one of several reasons why Nicks will not take us to a Flag.

I’ve watched these before, surely these are just the dumbest mofos that he comes across and not a proper representation
 
I watched the first half again today and didn’t see anything obvious that Butts or any other defender did on Lynch for he or Yze to complain about his treatment, what I did see was Lynch going to ground very easily numerous times.

Pretty sure it's just a thing where Lynch was getting double-teamed, and held as is often the case for forwards, and was pissed off he wasn't getting any free kicks. So figured he needed to "take matters into his own hands" and just kept escalating from there.

I doubt it’s any different to what most key forwards get. Lynch has always been a hot head when he’s struggling, used to lose his shit against Talia back when he was at Gold Coast too.

1st Crack showed all their contests & concluded there was nothing to warrant complaints from Richmond suggesting Lynch was hard done by.

Lynch should just own he lost the plot on the day as was being completely outplayed.

I'm just replying to a reply:

I don't blame the students who are: UNchallenged, UNinspired, UNmotivated, UNDER-respected, UNDER-appreciated and underwhelmed.
Little wonder they've become apathetic. Their brains are lazy because they don't get much brain-exercise, if any.
They are Test-ed and Exam-ined, but not taught how to learn or commit to memory (Association, Mnemonics etc).

They are "no less capable than previous generations" but given limited opportunities in modern classrooms.
Every classroom now has an overhead projector connected to a Teacher laptop which has become the main "teaching" device ==> ineffective, passive learning; just staring brain-dead, at another screen.
I rarely used mine.
I was too busy waking them up, asking questions, you know ... teaching :sneaky: .

It's because learning/memory/knowledge are de-valued and deemed to be irrelevant to their lives (just look at the Idiocracy that the USA has become! Our students are heavily influenced by US culture and "values").

We are surrounded by and benefit from Maths every minute, of every day, but very few notice or give a damn.

Not just a necessity; near-enough is more than enough.
Punctuality is seen as optional ("Why should I catch an earlier Bus to school/work? That'd just make me early, for school/work").
Thoroughness? Forget it. My Year 9 Maths-tutoring student cannot give me her Exams/Tests from earlier in the year because they have not been returned to her, nor will her teacher look for them. She was given her mark/Grade --- what else could she possibly want? :oops:
It spills over into Work Ethic, later --- do as little as you can without getting into trouble, or fired.

It's Nicks accidentally displaying his own deeply-ingrained ineptitude.
Picking Murphy was a mistake --- we could all see that.

Nicks playing him in the middle was doubling-down, trying to prove to us that he was right.
He wasn't.
 
Is it just me or has Sam Berry resurrected his career? I remember watching a Crow's promo video a few years ago when Berry was regarded as a tackling machine and that was all he talked about. Recently I've noticed he's actually got a bit of pace and has been using it to great effect. His disposal has improved and is now playing very positive footy. He'll never be an A grade mid but he's certainly improved us around the ball. A massive upgrade on Crouch.

I was one of, if not THE first on the Curtin train after the draft. Unlike many other “experts”, I said we have to be patient and he would reward us in spades.

Since a moderator has selectively bumped the comments of ONE poster (and there were plenty of others questioning Daniel) are we all allowed to do the same?

Was there a single Crows supporter who wasn't on the Curtin train immediately after the draft? We were all excited as hell at the prospect of having traded up to recruit a potential star. The only question was whether we would pull the trigger on him as a midfielder early, or break him in as a defender.
 
I wonder what Dawson said at the half time siren? He gathered all our players together before they went off the ground. It was just after the Lynch meltdown so maybe it was about not getting sucked in
