Honestly how many on here really do expect either of VB or DMac to be dropped?

I do not expect either of them to be dropped.

I expect Pyke will attempt to drop VB but be overruled by the other coaches

He did ok until Harvey kicked those 3 goals. But I defy anyone to stop Harvey kicking those the way they were delivered. The Garner one I have lived over and over and you think you are making the right decision until the goal is kicked and then you kick yourself.

Want me to rate VB? 5/10

But Tex , Eddie , Lynch, Talia were all 4s Why isn't the discussion on them as well? Listen I know we all have our favourite rag doll to chew on and when we do we feel a lot better because it takes us back to childhood and that need for immediate satisfaction but the football season is 22 rounds for a reason. It gives an opportunity to reset and give games to people that we know can be better. That is why Tex, Eddie , Lynch and Talia will be given games.
VB had a whopping 9 touches, while at the same time failed to stop Harvey and Garner, wasted a free kick by booting it out on the full, ran to the wrong places, didn't stick tackles and yet he still gets a 5/10? What's a 0/10 performance in your books?

Tex, Eddie, Lynch and Talia were poor, yes, there's no denying that, but their star power has single-handedly won us more than a couple of matches in the past few years. The last time VB did that was against Brisbane in 2010, eons ago now.

Goldstein smashed sauce tonight. Absolutely smashed him.
Even when goldstein went forward talia couldnt beat him. This is where hartigan was needed.
Surely vb gets dropped he was shit.

In; Cameron, Knight, Hartigan
Out; MCrouch(susp.) :confused::mad:, Vb, Mackay.

What will probably happen::::
In; Knight, Lyons
Out; Milera, MCrouch:mad::(:confused:o_O:fire:

So Pyke will need a season to deal with the legacy thinking ?

I think it will take longer than one game to convince the other coaches that VB is hugely detrimental to the team.

It's something the supporters can see right now but the coaches are closely involved in the playing group, where often things other than gameday performance can influence selections. There's also a lot of group think among them

Just on the VB selection...

Firstly I am not a fan. He shouldn't be playing.

But a couple of things to think about:

- We had McGovern and Milera debuting, and B Crouch coming in for his first game in basically 2 years. Three very fresh players in three key areas. Perhaps another player like a Knight (with no pre season) was too big a risk.

- The role that VB plays in Pyke's structure may not be able to be played by anyone else at the moment. I'd suspect it's Hampton but he is injured.

Again, he's been terrible but some food for thought.

It has a lot to do with this. VB plays a clear and determined role within the team's structure. I know people don't want to hear that but it's how it is.

What exactly is this role though?

Your second point maybe correct but on your first point you don't think an underdone rookie couldn't have given us more than VB tonight?

Small defender. He is not part of midfield rotation as some here believe and is not expected to build 15+ possessions.
I saw him at stoppages some of the stoppages tonight though. Besides, we have two capable small defenders in Laird and Brown, as well as Cheney who could play on the smaller types.

I wonder if Henderson can play this role? He's pretty poor defensively like VB but at least he has a nice kick, something VB lacks. Wigg is another. When's he going to get a go?

I agree. If VB's output for the last 12 months fits in with our structure then change the structure.

I honestly believe the coaches have created a role that puts VB in the team regardless of whether we're actually better with this role (and therefore VB) in the team.

I think it's partly to do with not wanting to face the music and answer questions as to why a 200-game ex-captain is permanently dropped. Just look at the backlash when Brisbane dropped Adcock and subsequently delisted him. It's what we should do but we don't want to face the scrutiny

It's compounded by the fact no journalist or commentator ever questions why VB is in the team, and no one bothers to analyse his contributions to the team

There's plenty of players who could play above VB in his position…Shaw, Cheney, Beech, McGovern, Wigg, Henderson, Sloane, Seedsman…it just depends on how we want to structure up but basically anyone will do!

DMac is just a shit footballer and must go

VB's body can run in straight lines however has no power off the mark, lacks agility and turns like a aircraft carrier in the pacific island

Both need to go for different reasons
I'd say VB isn't the greatest either, given the position he puts some players into with his disposal. Also his disposal can be down right ordinary. In the end they both need to go for the same reasons, they have had enough chances and are liabilities and will not improve.

This is pretty symptomatic of the gutless, conservative way the AFC has been run for years with nothing to show for it except comfortable, matesy relations between coaches and the playing group.
