Review R23: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Collingwood

Fox has been almost unwatchable this year - their displeasure is palpable. Even Huddo doesn't seem to like it sometimes and he's usually the best in the business.

Compare the reaction to one of our goals vs the oppositions. All you hear about is a missed free or a missed tackle or a bad umpiring call. When the boot's on the other foot its all about the genius of Daicos.

Or the endless whining about one-eyed crowds, noise of affirmation and how much of an advantage we have at AO, when the same thing happens at the MCG every time a Victorian club plays a non Victorian one.

Here's a clue - saying our backline is "no name" only highlights how ignorant you are. Saying "we only hear about players if they live in Melbourne" is grossly unprofessional. That would never fly in any national competition anywhere else in the world.

It's your job to be familiar with players at EVERY club, not just those from the VFL days.

Lyon banging on about coaching moves, or lack of, was boring as hell. Give me Dwayne or BT any day, at least I’m entertained to some extent. Bias from commentators doesn’t bother me, it’s part of the fabric. Just like whinging about umpires in the game day thread when it’s totally unwarranted.

I think it should be unbiased, or at least come across that way. I don't expect commentators to not have biases. I just expect them to not let it affect their work.

If we're going to go down this road of accepting state bias being part of the fabric of commentary, we deserve a better ambassador than Mark Ricciuto.

Are there still people that think the commentators aren't incredibly biased towards Vic sides? Dunstall and Lyon were barracking for the Pies all night. You can even hear Lyon refer to the Pies as "we" like he's one of their supporters.

I'm pretty disappointed with Dunstall. He was graceful in our shit years but now that we're decent, he sees us as a threat and his Victorian lizard brain instincts are kicking in.

You can't see in the tv vision but the last contest in Collingwood's forward line, Keane has the ball, kind of half drags it in/falls on it and Collingwood did their smart half tackle and appeal and was definitely going to be called holding the ball, you can see the ump go to call it. Milera could see this, he just grabbed it straight of Keanes hands and booted it up field to Dawson, there was no hand off, Keane didn't push it out (from what I could see).

I think I personally prefer Butts in defence keeps his head a little more and doesn't bite off more than he should chew, Over Murray.

Either way clubs will be coming for his services, real KPD defenders who can defend at AFL level don't grow on trees.

Worrell next contract will be a million plus, Vic clubs will come calling with huge dollars when his contract is next up. Especially if he gets his rightfully earned All Australian jumper this year.

Collingwood board will have you believe the commentary was biased against them.

It's just how we perceive it.

However we can all agree that the commentary was woeful.

I’ve seen them whining about the short throw in that led to Peatling kicking a goal, yet that same vision shows Pendlebury blocking Thilthorpe who was rucking, instant free.

There was lot of holding and blocking Thilthorpe off of the ball last night. Was pretty similar against Hawthorn

Ugly: The guy infront of me got up and left with 3:11 to go on the clock in clutch time in one of the critical games of the season.

He always leaves 2 mins early and has missed Thilly's late goal a few games ago.

Traffic must really annoy him to miss being part of that crowd roar.

I can never understand why people leave early, especially in a close game. You paid all that money to get into the game, invested your entire night watching it and then leave early just to avoid the traffic and get home 30 minutes earlier.

No, Nicks wanted someone to play the specific sixth forward role. Obviously he doesn't think Dowling or Jones are best playing that role.

Maybe he's wrong, but it's his call at the moment, and most of his calls seems to be working.

Dawson will, Thilthorpe and Rankine won't. They'll go for Cameron and Darcy as the talls ahead of Thilthorpe. I don't think Worell will make it either, they'll go the "You need more than 1 good season" excuse to pick someone who's been in before ahead of him.
