I only made it until Lachie O'Brien took that mark in front of goal in the second before turning the TV off.

It was a close contest between the umpires, the commentators and us as to who was more insipid.

It's become clear that it's time for Hamish to go. Ten years in the role and how many decent players do we have to show for it? We can't even recruit decent KPD's anymore (apologies to Butts).

One big positive I had from the game was our kick outs after a behind, we actually tried a number of different things, mainly from Dawson and Frampton. That kick down the middle from Frampton was a ripper and honestly should have lead to an easy scoring opportunity if not for the very rare field kick from Tex that didn't work.

Close to my favourite game of Jones I've seen too. 18 touches and a lot of attacking kicks after getting into position to find the ball himself, used his run a bit too. Not a fan in general but today's game was a big tick.

Dawson has been super consistent, loved the hand off from Berry to him to get the goal. Shame he doesn't have the same penetration as Smith as he's had a few this year which have fallen just a bit short - 55m seems to be his top end range.

Walker - Honestly not sure I'd bother watching us half the time without him. Get so much enjoyment every week following him and it's going to be a massive loss when the end comes and while some thought we should move him on, I think we'll be begging him to go around instead.

--------------------------

Frampton - Sticking with my call in the pre season that I'd love to see him play as a 3rd tall defender - take the resting ruck. He's not disciplined enough to man a top quality forward and he gives up well before the contest is over which is really frustrating to see. He just doesn't seem to care about losing those 1v1 contests compared to someone like Butts where you can see it so clearly. That said, his offensive play is great and can easily lead to us getting some easy scoring opportunities on the other end.

Whether we can afford to bring in another KPD to have him as a 3rd tall who can try intercept a bit more, I'm not sure about. I think it would need to come at the expense of Brown as that's the role Doedee would fill - which I think would be a net positive imo, at least for Doedee and Frampton but it might lead us to being too top heavy at the end of the day.

O'Brien - I'm so done with him. Have been for some time now. If Strachan can't get a game then we may as well delist him now and open up the list position as I really can't see how we could do any worse. Also a major concern that we don't have any other real rucks on the list. We need to draft a mobile one yesterday, even if they're going to take a few years to develop. Nothing to like about O'Brien's game, at least with Strachan, he was capable of hitting it to advantage and an alright kick, even if he comes from that same school of really slow moving ruckman without much aggression which we seem to love.

Most the forwards were pretty crap but it's hard to showcase much when it doesn't go there much.

My take:

  • Umps are putrid, robbed us any chance of hanging in there in the first half at which point damage was done.
  • Obrien simply has to go, losing ruck battles to Jack SOS, can't keep his feet, plenty of non 2nd efforts and then we move to getting out tapped. Worst performance I've seen from him and he's had a few bad ones.
  • Lack of pressure around stoppage was abysmal, gives our defenders literally no hope.
  • The only real positives were Dawson, Tex & Murphys first half & I thought Chayce Jones was pretty solid & at least played with urgency unlike most. Berry puts in effort at least but is still very much learning.

That's about it really.

The season has turned from looking ok to extremely painful very fast. If we keep backing the likes of O'brien in when Strachan deserves a crack we deserve it & to lose members. If we give Strachan a go and it doesn't work so be it, but insanity is doing the same s**t expecting different results.
Couldn't agree more regarding ROB. Has to go and give Strachan a proper crack for 3 weeks. Players that expect to be picked s**t me to tears

Yes, I thought Jones played well tonight.
There was one minor off-the-ball incident that made me think he's found his feet and self-worth.
Second 1/4 I think; Jones gave an opponent a little shove after the ball had gone out on the far wing. An oppo teammate ran in and gave Jones a shove from behind in retaliation.
Jones turned and returned the favour as if to say "Don't give me any s**t, mate", but without going over-the-top like, say, McHenry still does.

Jones is attacking the ball harder and starting to break lines, which is great to see.

Just like 2 + 2 = 4,
maybe he's just dumb and lacks composure then? what's your explanation Einstein?

also doing the "hey cool internet post x/x's mum" is only funny when the forum legend didn't explicitly say they were quoting - you nerd
+
cool afl fan fiction man!!! and then everyone clapped

do you do any romance stuff or?
= you go to "ignore".

In about another 500 posts or so, you'll be wondering: "Gee, why don't others reply to my clever posts?".

See above.

Not even the ABC can let this go:
"Walker kicked the opening goal in a fiery start, continuing his strong form on return from his ban for a racist comment, and was jeered by Blues fans throughout the contest"
(Carlton claim fourth spot with scintiliating attacking display against Adelaide)

Walker has apologised, and did his time.
He deserves not to have his nose rubbed in it every time he plays.

It's interesting that ROB no longer gets back in time to help our defence but seems to be able to get forward quick enough to spoil our forwards from marking inside 50.

Terrible decision to give him that bloated contract and then elevate him to the leadership group.

Positivies:

Berry - Looks like we might have a long term piece, a label I struggle to give too many players on the list

Jones - Solid. Perhaps watched Doch run off the back of stoppages and decided to do the same himself, very useful weapon.

Dawson - Our best player, good in the air, around the ground and even at stoppage. The 50/50 wing/mid and def split is great. Don't waste him forward we need him delivering and taking marks around the ground.

Butts - We needed two of him, held McKay but Curnow tore Frampton/Doedee.

Negatives
No big body to match Cripps. Hately tried and was second every time. We need one more midfield piece to match up on these guys.

Was at the game, first half I was in disbeleif at the absolute state of those umpires, then 3rd quarter the inability for us to have a crack.

I've been one that has been okay to watch the frampton experiment take place. I cna cop him losing a 1 on 1 against curnow who was just on fire and he really needed help at this point, his field kicking is pretty good for a big bloke too BUT the thing that did me yesterday was when Carlton were moving the ball forward from the wing (bench side) and he just didn't provide a contest with either his player or any player near him which tore apart our defense and led to an easy goal. Just inexcusable. Not sure we have many options though, Murray is not the answer (his kicking is a liability), we aren't playing fish down back so he isn't either. Should we try Borlase?

I think we need to play one of mcadam or gollant, not sure they both work. Murphy I don't have any time for. Not up to it, give someone else a go.

Jones was good I thought, took the game on, left his man to spoil and help a team mate. Berry looked good a few times too.

IMAGINE OUR MIDFIELD IF A RUCKMAN COULD ACTUALLY GET THEM THE BALL!! STARCHAN ISN'T THE ANSWER.

Himmelberg played a career game a few weeks ago, time for him to go. Sometimes he just doesn't provide any sort of contest.

That was a real painful game to watch... hope I don't have to witness many of those in person again...

So far this year I have been at the Collingwood game and this one, so it's hard not to get negative about the state of play. 74 inside 50s and just getting slaughtered through the midfield, again. For years. Pop onto this board and every year there is a chorus for us to draft some mids. Especially bigger bodies. And we don't. And we continue to be slaughtered. Patrick Cripps is lickin' his lips every year against us. It is embarrassing. How can these recruiters keep their jobs? The BigFooty board is more competent than them, and let's face it, that's a pretty amazing call!!!

jones was our BOG

ROB was our worst

74 inside 50’s.. yep, 70 fu**n 4!!.. a record for carlton!.

if that doesnt say something about just how utterly deplorable our midfield is I don't know what does. and I thought Berry was our best mid. Laird and Keays are junk.. hately is b-grade at best. what fu**n defense can withstand such an onslaught?

our poor forwards and defenders having to deal with that disgraceful display.

Absolutely hilarious seeing people beating up on our forwards and defenders over that. delusions aplenty.

We know the midfield is a massive problem, but I think we push forward with what we have and add more juniors to Laird and Keays at this stage.

I think we need to get ROB out ASAP. Give Strachan a go or if that’s not palatable because of experience/continuity mantras, then play both just to see if it improves our stoppage work and ball movement from there. I’m against both playing, but if ROB has a rolled gold pass, we’ve no other option.

And whilst I’m on record as defending both ends of the ground until midfield is fixed, I’ve seen enough of Billy when he has a chance 1 on 1 to rule a line through him as a KPD. So if he’s suiting up again it’s as a intercept/rebounding defender.

Checks notes

Yep, still right

And I’m not sure how Himmelberg playing like Himmelberg helps his trade value.
Eschewing this and insisting on playing one of Frampton or Berg at all times is just the epitome of a club going nowhere
Out: Frampton
In: Himmelberg

This time it will be the difference.
Honestly and truly, what THE fu** is this club’s obsession with the Frampton /Himmelberg musical chairs thing?

They way they just drop one and then circle back to the other, expecting a different result each time, is just astonishingly stupid.
Himmelberg was a perfect like for like replacement for Frampton. We replaced one bloke who can’t mark, can’t kick and has no awareness, with another bloke who can’t mark, can’t kick and has no awareness. Tactically, it was perfect.

Also, today we road-tested the idea of a “reverse sub.” That is, you replaced an injured player with another injured player. This is an idea that is going to be copied all over the league. A piece of absolute tactical genius and I can’t believe no team has thought of this yet.

All in all, another proud day to be a Crows supporter. Not embarrassing in the slightest.
Can someone explain to me why the club is obsessed with playing one of either Frampton or Himmelberg?
Frampton/Himmelberg Tomato/Tomahto

Here’s an idea out of left field. How about playing neither of them?

I only saw the first half, but it was enough.

Heading backwards while still treading just enough water to let North, and now the Eagles as well slip past us to the better draft picks is a real final crack at the club speciality
We play West coast and North twice each in the back half of the season, throw those games and pick 1 is assured.
Of course the VFL would punish us for tanking in a heartbeat.
Just like with the umpiring....there's almost no where the Crows can "sneak" an advantage.
I'm still pissed at pick 23 compo for B Crouch,
He was the previous years best and fairest, ANY Vic club would have gotten start ofb1st round compo.
We were last on the ladder and were still punished by the VFL.
I'm 46 and don't expect to see another Adelaide premiership in my lifetime.
Like gambling at a casino....the "house" edge makes all the difference .
The fact we dont even hold our own licence so are a Adelaide club in name only is the icing on the cake.
You just can't win in a comp set up by Victorians, run by Victoians, umpired by Victorians, for the benefit of Victorians....who all hate South Australians...especially the Adelaide Crows!
They will ALAYS look to disadvantage Adelaide EVERY chance they get...and it's THEIR competition and THEY make all the rules.
It really is a s**t competition
