I think Bonds skills are fine and will dramatically improve with time.

Just my take, but right now I think the game is still too fast and it doesn’t help that our entire ground defence isn’t as good as it used to be. The ball is transitioning from our half forward with far too much ease.

Give him 15 to 20 more games and he will be used to the pace and tempo of the game and when things slow down, he will have more time to execute kicking or handling. Give him more time and he will be fine.

Out: Bond, Tex, Butts
In: Murray, Dawson, Draper

I do want to add more offensive power in that back 50, however, if we're not going Cook, I'd like to see us give Taylor a run in the half back line for a few weeks. Another very neat footballer who could do with more responsibility, and I'd be happy to just get Draper in for additional pace in our forward 50 (not super worried about his SANFL performances, though I haven't watched the last two weeks). Other two are pretty self explanatory, and I really hate our defensive unit shapes up with Bond, Max and Laird as potential key parts of our ball movement game.

I do feel like Dawson off half-back is a pretty likely option given where we are at right now. Still not moving the ball well out of defence, multiple players in the back half you really don't want with ball in hand, and waiting on Hinge and Keane to come back from injury.

Dawson can help with a lot of those issues, and while we lose his midfield presence we do have other options we could give more midfield time, especially when Ah Chee comes back in. And I don't see us dropping any of the current mids right now anyway.

Crows forward nears comeback as captain returns to training

While the Crows have been hit by a pair of injuries, two key players could also return this week

Didn’t he just play one of the better midfields?
Do you honestly think PORT has one of the better midfields ? .....some Club Mids are pretty unaccountable, and possession are reasonably easy ....also remember Clubs don't mind certain players having the ball in hand, due to their low hurt factor

The Bulldogs are good player for player ....but they're usually one way runners

Geelong though squeeze up on you .....Brisbane & Sydney the toughest Midfield

I suggest you review Berry's performances against those midfield's

Yes I and most other people have ports midfield in the top 1/3rd

And even if he got the ball 48 times he would have been an "ineffective accumulator crab".

There is always a negative when someone doesn't like a player.
OK ...I get the positive emotion towards players from a win

But this is the same midfield most of this board has been declaring is the worst in the AFL .....can you please make up your mind

So who needs to be replaced in the midfield: Dawson, Rachele, Rankine, Soligo, Curtin ....please tell me if you believe Berry is a better option than any of these blokes .....and if he is, why are we chasing Zac Bailey

Also ...why was Berry on a games trigger to get a contract for 2027

My POV ...which we all have, is I'd prefer the weapons Edwards brings to the table .....height, speed, elite kick, and composure under pressure

I'd be trading Berry this year .....what do they say, "Buy Low, Sell Hi"
These are the sort of moves that make a difference to Clubs ... I think we can all agree, Bailey is an upgrade on Berry ....and Edwards needs a spot in that midfield rotation

I like** Taylor and Keays (who is finding some form at last).
On Friday night, Keays >> Taylor.
Keays covered the most ground of any player, had a few clever assists and 3 goals.

** I like Fogarty and Pedlar, Nankervis and Borlase too but jeez, they need to do a Cook, asap.
Might be too late for Fogarty; I hope not.
There were 3 -4 players on the weekend that just looked "SHARP" .....I mean, one grab, instinctive, top of their game

One was Milera ....Cook, Peatling, and Pedlar
Not saying as best players, but how they were moving and attacking contests

Taylor is interesting ....there's no doubt we've been "carrying" him, getting games into him .....the last couple of games, he's been getting higher up the ground ...and he looks good, albeit still a low possession player like Cook has been

Like Cook, Taylor has an elite footy IQ ......when does he breakout ....I guess that's the same question posed on the board with Cook in the Pre-Season

Thinking through a 9 day break. McAndrew may not need a rest.

Thilly however I think could use a week off.
Yep, bring ROB in against a no-name RICH Ruck .... Fog in for Tex ...manage Thilthorpe's TOG

3 games now B4 the Bye for a complete refresh

The changes this week will depend on who is available and who is injured/needs to be managed.

There are a couple of changes that have to be made, regardless of injuries.

Out - Toby Murray, Berry

In - Edwards, Dowling
Just a tad inflammatory don't you think?

No doubt you'll get the rise your looking for from the usual suspects. 😂

Our game style doesn't seem to help our mids sometimes

Because we are a low handballing team, those chains of possessions through the middle don't occur. The mids aren't routinely involved in high possession chains, getting their hands dirty, getting a taste for it and building their numbers.

Our style suits half back kickers so Milera, Laird, Worrell typically lead our possession winners.

I don't know if we play in similar fashion in the SANFL
I hear tell BRIS are a pretty good side ..... yet they handball less than us ....and likewise, a lot of their drive comes off Half Back, holding their defensive structure and kicking thru zones

Quite effective if you ask me ....

He’s had to move on from canning Cook.

Ah Chee comes back through the SANFL this week, right?

Assuming Taylor comes out for him against North
Been out too long to risk coming straight into the AFL side.

I know what you mean.
Milera has really shone this year. Great to see.
Cook looks so good with the ball now, his positioning/movement/evasion and his delivery are beyond anything I thought he'd do (for which I've eaten humble pie, re:both).
I like Peatling but the two above are better imo.

Pedlar is an enigma to me. Does stuff sometimes that makes me think there's a real player there, but goes missing for long periods. I watched the second half replay twice but after you mentioned him I can't remember much at all that he did after 1/2 time. If he does a Cook, I'll be very happy.

Taylor, well, see Pedlar above. Looks like he might be a high-impact player, but is not yet.
Maybe Pedlar and Taylor are under some odd instruction that puts them where the ball isn't?
Shape-keeping? Non-statistical role? Run their opponent out-of-position? <== I am not being facetious, here.
I wish they'd get the ball more often.

Sooner, better.

I read all 39 pages of last week’s changes threads including your contributions, Froggy. It was a contender for a top ten in selection melts.

The key issues were
1) Only a clown would retain Toby Murray
2) Selecting Borlase over N Murray was ridiculous
3) Dropping Edwards was an indication that Nick’s has lost the plot.
4) Dowling must be picked before our underperforming midfielders like Berry.

Four days later and which posters are suggesting that we drop Turray and Borlase? Very little love for Edward’s and Dowling?

Is it possible that the Bigfooty Experts were wrong last week?

Taylor probably doesnt have the leg speed back there but we do need something else.

I don't think you need a particularly quick player at half back, just someone with a bit of composure when the heat is on and good ball skills.

The rest you can kind of figure out on the fly.

Way to group everyone together.

Im a Borlase supporter but I don't think 2 or 3 is necessarily wrong or a melt nor would the results have changed?

How are you finding cooks games this year?
Is it possible you were wrong about him?
