Then what we need to be doing is getting the ball to Mitch when he is not about to be tackled.
He copped 3 handball receives Saturday night where he couldn't avoid being tackled.

The impressive thing with Mitch is he holds the ball for that extra second to spot up the best target to handball to.

Hard to know what’s happening there. Did Crowden call for the ball when he shouldn’t? are players giving it to someone under pressure? Bit of both probably

poor handball is poor. At least one came from our captain.
Crowden isn't selective. If it is coming towards him he catches it.

Crowden also doesn’t know what’s behind or beside him, the other player mightn’t either. My point wasn’t having a go at either situation, just that it’s probably a combination of poor handball & also calling for the ball when you shouldn’t

I find it puzzling that so many people want to rest players. The season has barely got underway and every week people are calling for this player or that player to be rested. To build a properly functioning team there needs to be continuity in the selection process.
Lazy kids. Wouldn't have happened in my day.

That happens with players who prefer to get in and mix it. He finds himself very close to the contest and you can get sat on.

Agree. It's not as if he is out in space when he gets caught htb but rather right in the thick of the traffic trying to apply pressure or offer an option to his teammates. Early days in his development so no need to crucify him just yet.

Another is the giver expecting the quick one/two but the receiver not being at the same level (not a shot at Crowden more newer players in general). The Tom Mitchells of the world give the handball expecting it to be basically tapped back to them as they run around you. It creates space for them and works, mostly. If the receiver doesn't take it cleanly or isn't expecting to give it straight back, then it can end up with them being pummelled.

Non stop arm chair commentary about a first year teenage docker. Even on fb people are crying because he signed on.

Already in the Suban basket

I can't imagine being upset he signed in , he's a kid 7 games into his AFL career and seems absolutely happy to go head in with anyone. That can't because bad thing and pretty confident he's not too old to see some improvement.

I had a different read on the crowden situation. Having watched his get bailed up in the pocket and then giving away a free when there were options it looks to me like he is over thinking or too nervous.
I think he needs to spend some time in the WAFL getting some confidence and moving the ball on quicker.

Yeah it wouldn't hurt. But I don't think AFL is going to harm him either. He just probably needs to get a better feel for times when he can actually go the fend, rather than against 18 year olds where he can 90% of the time.

Minor milestone this week is that it will be Ross lyon 150th game as coach of fremantle this week. And our 1st coach to do so for the club.

Does that mean he qualifies for life membership like the players or is it different for coaches.

Anyway it has been a unusual couple of weeks for the club and ross and while he does have flaws in his coaching just like everyone else.

He has overseen our most successful era 2012-2015.

So well done Ross

I would add that he is an AFL coaching legend by any objective measure.

Grand finals:

- 2IC to Roos 2005/06 (considered by many to be the brains behind our success)
- St Kilda 2009/10
- Freo 2013

Minor Premiers:

- St Kilda 2009
- Freo 2015

People can criticize his game style, but his achievements with 3 different clubs in 10 years deserves nothing but high praise.

As for Saturday, we'd be even money to beat our great-grandmother in an arm wrestle. You lot are right in this, although I reckon we might finally pinch one at home - just!

I think your being kind. We will be lucky to get within 5 goals imo.

He tries to break the tackle too, current vogue is to drop the ball and try get a holding free

Hah! Thanks - some Tigers fan came on and said similar stuff before they did nasty things to us.

Fyfe is actually going to monster this weekend - I mean like 40+ with most of them contested.

He loves the SCG. The other thing with Fyfe is that he drinks his own coolaid (in a good way) - if he knows he’s doing good, and everyone tells him he’s doing good, then **** me he’s going to make doing good look like Gablett Snr and Gablett Jnr playing in the same side in their Brownlow years.

How about Sandi and S Hill? Maybe Mundy?

What if Brayshaw only play 60% game time one week?? If we didn't have many njuries, and good depth then I would rather rest a player than have him play under 80% of game time. If he is good to play the entire game, then he should play.

That was aimed at the kids, I would rather them play as many games possible and if that means managing their game time, bring it on.

The seniors should be able to play out a season by now unless injured

Really don’t want and can’t see us resting Sandi this week.
Probably my one and only reason is I would like to see him own FIGJAM Callum Sinclair..... he shits me to look at him.

In all seriousness, being the SCG I can’t see the harm in bringing in Strdnica or at a stretch Apeness. Small ground, mobility of Sinclair will hurt us if we get the match up wrong.Cox could do the job also.

Ins:
Wilson for Johnson - he can create massive impact this week kicking from half back to deep forward.

Stephen Hill for D. Pearce. - no explanation needed.

I really think we can and will match up well against Sydney - Buddy out helps as well .....

That's because Mitch has that air of confidence about him plus the instinct to make his disposal a quality one.
I reckon the coaches will be encouraging him to keep it up.

Fyfe has given off a couple of suicide handpasses the past 2 games, including to Mitch.

Worst one I saw was against Richmond, I think Banfield was the culprit.
