Got it in one, that summarises the SACA perfectly. They also have a team which has no junior program and only exists through stealing players from other clubs. SACA have no idea.
Winning the Shirld doesn't mean much these days - Vics cricket hardly in rude health but hey we've won back to back Shields so everything must be ok 'eh?

If they want to keep Ferguson out of BBL just spend some of that Simmons cash to bring him to Adelaide

He probably wouldn't have played for the Renegades either. You can't wrap guys in cotton wool, could have easily happened at a Redbacks training and no one would be whinging about it happening during the BBL.

I wouldn't know. When I was involved in cricket at SACA Grade level, the admin and selectors made so many mistakes I lost interest. Couldn't care less if Redbacks won the Shield or finished bottom, our input into Australian cricket has been almost negligible since Ian and Greg Chappell.

Only because every other club refuses to allow said club juniors. Hard for clubs to penalise a club for not having juniors when the only reason they don't is the other clubs sticking up for their self interest. Completely understand why university are the odd one out in the eyes of many given the history of the competition and the 'university question' but do think it'd be a big loss if the grounds and facilities there were lost to the comp while some of the shocking setups remained. UQ finished runner up in the QLD grade with 7 FC players. USYD have a very successful setup with several FC players. UMelb have an established setup. University clubs traditionally go well without question in other states, just here it's always been iffy.

UWA (University) are also an integral part of the fabric in the Perth grade comp.

I reckon it's essential to retain these links to the Uni's. As you mentioned, the facilities are top class and there is a lot of history associated with these clubs. Poaching players is commonplace in our system with University being far from the worst offender. Guys are very willing to try their luck elsewhere if it gives them a shot at playing first grade.

No SA guys on the CA contract list. As expected but still a shame. If you get a few guys on CA contracts it frees up some salary cap space. At least we have a few moving a bit closer to it.

Who stays? Who goes? You'd think Jake Weatherald and Alex Carey are definites to get contracts next season. Maybe Elliot Opie. I'm pretty sure Gary Putland has retired. Winter might be too old for a rookie contract next season.

Heard the same re: page full contract. emerging young fastie will replace winter on the rookie list too. Surprisingly hearing Cosgrove out and Cooper to stick around. Also heard murmurs of a wicketkeeper being sourced from interstate.
