Reilly O'Brien: Nicnat lazy and unfit, I'll have a field day

Agreed but don't you mean $10m?

People are in awe of a 7 possession performance against one of the world teams we've seen in years.

The cheek of him to hand O'Brien a phone when O'Brien did exactly what he said he would which was run Nick Nat off his feet. He can't go for 4 quarters despite limited game time.

West Coast v Adelaide
10 Tim Kelly (WCE)
7 Jeremy McGovern (WCE)
5 Brodie Smith (ADEL)
5 Nic Naitanui (WCE)
2 Dom Sheed (WCE)
1 Andrew Gaff (WCE)

Hope this helps your ignorance

ROB is spot on. "Nic Nat" just walks around the ground when he isn't at a centre bounce.

It's actually unbelievable that a player of Naitanui's ability has earned ~$1,000,000 (footy salary + marketing) across almost his entire career to date. Surely he would have to be among the most overpaid & overrated players of all time?

The "most important player at west coast" myth that footy commentators banged on about for years was completely debunked when they won a flag without him. His career highlights otherwise include a lucky All-Australian selection in 2012 (Sam Jacobs was comfortably the #1 ruckman that season) and a rising star nomination.

What a superstar....
You do realise that the west coast eagles don't pay natanui a massive wage . The afl pays half his wage .

Natanui is way better than most 400k a year players .

We pay natanui 1/2 of what goldy grungy gawn get .

Is he 1/2 as good ?

Your boys just set up defensively, you didn't need to put pressure on his kicks hahaha
Has always been the case with Matt crouch . No point getting it 30 times if you keep turning it over .

The old Clarko saying " if you can't kick you can't play " .

But he has Mitchell and worpol who arnt much better .

All team's have them . We had priddis for years and win a GF the year after he retires .
We now have Kelly who is probably our worst kicking midfielder.

But not as bad as crouch.

No one in awe about his 7 possessions, just paying credit where credit is due. You clearly didn't watch the game or you wouldn't be spouting such nonsense. It's well known fitness isn't his strong point, the man is carrying around significantly more muscle and explosive power than any other ruck in the competition so it's no wonder he burns out earlier. He completely dominated the ruck contests, had the 2nd most clearances on the field, threw his weight around in the stoppages and provided plenty of pressure/shepherds and even kicked a goal out of a ruck contest.

If O'Brien was happy collecting his 11 cheap possessions in the back half during the last quarter after the game was well and truly sewn up, and considers that running Naitanui off his feet, then good on him. Naitanui did what was asked and had a big hand in us building a comfortable lead in the first 3 quarters when the game was there to be won, and if you noticed the coaches rated him the 3rd best player on the ground.

Amazing how quick the trolls shut up as their total lack of footy knowledge is exposed, it's almost as soon as the coaches votes are available...:tearsofjoy:

From the 4 All-Australian candidates in 2012 (Naitanui, Cox, Jacobs, Maric), Naitanui was:
-Voted starting ruck by the All-Australian committee
-Received the most coaches votes
-Received the most Brownlow votes
-Got the highest ranking from Champion data.

The notion it was 'lucky' is just another footy myth, the fact so many people in the footy industry actually backed it up with their own indepenedent rankings should prove that to you. Or unless you think your opinion counts for more than those with a heck of a lot more footy experience than you?

Is this actually confirmed anywhere or something WCE fans like to perpetuate amongst themselves and others? Couldn't find it...

No actual figures quoted, but confirmed we don't pay all his wages

"The star ruckman earns more than $1 million a year but a significant amount is for his marketing appeal and is outside of the Eagles’ salary cap. "

He's been an AFL ambassador for a number of years now, so saved us some coin

As I thought, so the previous poster suggesting he is paid $600k by the AFL and $400k by the WCE is talking out of their arse.

A 'significant amount' does not = 'the majority' so it can be safely assumed that it's not even close to $600k or even half. In reality it's probably more of a 80/20 split.

Well no one knows, even saying 80/20 is just speculating.

He's a funny one Nic. I remember hearing about him in 2008 and made a trip out to Bassendean Oval to watch him in the WAFL (along with Yarran and Walters). The things he did were incredible but he didn't get involved all that much. I remember thinking at the time that once he got to the AFL he would be fitter and stay involved longer but it's never really happened.
No one has more influence than he does around the ball at times, if he took more marks and generally stayed involved more when the ball isn't at a stoppage I think he really could have been the most dominant player in the game at his peak.

I remember the WAFL GF that year, Swans played Subi and Nic absolutely nailed Chad Fletcher in the best run down tackle I've ever seen. Fletcher was waltzing across the half forward line towards goals and Nick came from the clouds and ran him down like a lion after prey. This gradual roar built up around the stadium as he got closer and turned into an extended ooohhhh (of the "that must have hurt" kind) as Fletcher was drilled into the playing surface.

Good to watch at his best!
