Always want to know if a team has a big supporter base then does this equate to on field success.

Good question. A big supporter base adds soul to a club and players from clubs such as Collingwood and West Coast lift big time.

It also helps with player retention and recruiting (unless you're Rssendon), so I believe teams with big supporter bases will be more likely to be successful on the field.

I think it goes to the ability of the off-field elements of the club - how well the club is run, the resources available, the talent at board level who can make the right decisions.

Bulldogs won in in 2016 with less than 40k members. A small Vic club hadn't previously won it since 1999, with the Saints coming close a few times.

Sure helps!
Favourable fixturing.
Player retention aided by dodgy marketing jobs, sponsorships, property deals.
Can’t see a club like Saints or North getting to negotiate a penalty for match fixing (hi jaidyn!)
Dayne Beams getting paid outside of the salary cap after he got fat is a joke too.

Yea rich clubs have it easy. Pathetic that the Pies only have as many flags as the Dees do in the last twenty years.
