Richmond hate explained?

I think mostly it's because we always disappoint. How many games over the least 20 odd years have we gone in a favourites or into pressure games and completely flunked. We get built up, and do so a bit ourselves (like every other supporters), then we crash out and everyone goes typical Richmond. And fair enough. Even when we were playing good footy with Richo/Knights etc, Richo would miss a clutch goal and we'd bomb out.
Other supporters admire our passion but we have been a bit of a joke, even the most ardent supporter (and I've followed the Tiges for 50 years) has to admit it. But things have changed a bit this season as we finally seem to have a decent admin and new coaching staff and a guy like Balme and some kids who can play and really have a crack. So we are quietly up and about but other than some enjoyment after a win we are still pretty aware that it is a long season, and anything can happen... and given that it is Richmond, probably will.

Its not hate, its just annoying.. you know, getting text messages after a game of footy from mates, you had no idea even follow footy, let alone are now experts because the tiggy train is in full force... please. Here we come 5-0.
Your allowed to be excited but for **** sake, don't pretend to be a supporter only when your team is going well.

And also if we want to celebrate a win like a GF then we will. Big deal. Richmond fans love to party and if that makes other supporters feel insecure thats cool. I feel lucky that I can feel as happy about a regular season win as a grand final.

That's sad..
Your not really trying to compare a home and away 4 point game and a Grand Final win, taking the piss right?

Why? Because its not an echo chamber praising Richmond? You have the maturity and the brain capacity of a 5 year old.

It's not about praise.

When we're losing it's all about how terrible we are; when we're winning it's about how we're going to start losing soon.

Boring.

Where are the cartwheels and handstands? Are there any Richmond supporters here who are confident about next week?

Myth.

I don't recall saying anything much about your chances next week. Crows have a couple down, You guys have your tails up, I'd say you're not without a chance, enough for your fans to be fairly confident. Seriously, good luck next week.

The cartwheels and handstands? The fans at the game were pretty excited, it was a metaphor, not a blow by blow peer reviewed dissertation.

Hate? It will be a Bulldogs-level lovefest for Richmond from the neutrals when they break their grand final drought.

Thats absolute Bullshiit - you werent around in the 60s and 70s

Nothing against the current Richmond supporters - but when that club was successfull - they were the most arrogant prricks on this planet - Ian Wilson , Graeme Richmond - i couldnt stand any of them - they made me sick

Id far prefer the Bulldogs to win another flag - even a 3rd flag in this era - than for Richmond to break their long drought

Welcome to a small glipse of what being successful in the AFL feels like. I have never experienced the level of stupid like discrediting every single team that has won the flag in other codes. If there was a perfect example of cutting tall poppies down, its AFL fans.

What until you become uber successful and the dickheads in the media start making up falsehoods to plant in people heads and they start repeating them as facts. Just wait.

Seems like it's only sad to you not to me. I'm happy about the win that's the emotion I feel. Should I try and make myself sad like you?

I used to think like that about people who led "boring" lives and got pleasure out of the simplest things like sitting down with a cup of coffee and a newspaper. I need a lot of interests and hobbies in my life and couldn't understand how some people could lead such boring lives. Now I realise that so long as they're happy it doesn't matter what makes them happy. They're happy and that's it.

I don't hate Richmond. I don't think I know anyone outside my father's generation (Over 60) who even gets close to 'hating' Richmond.

I do however think after 35 years on this planet, that they seem to be easily the most insecure fans.

Always trying to announce themselves as most hated
Always crowing about memberships and crowds
Always talking up their 'army'

I would of thought since they are finally showing some genuine good form on the field that this insecure "look-at-me" attitude would die down.

Guess not

Aww bb

Every team has those supporters however I hate this notion that it's tiger supporters who come out of the woodwork when we are going well. We have the most loyal supporters who stick with the club no matter how we are going. We have won 2, yes 2 finals since 1983 and still manage to have record attendance and membership. Going by the adage we have so many fair weather supporters we should easily have over 100,000 members if we actually win a flag.

We will be unbearable if we win a flag, it will be such a joyful thing to behold.

Not sure what there is to hate. We've largely avoided any off field controversies in recent times and have abstained from the temptation to sack Dimma. And we have a practising Catholic, Jehovah's Witness and Muslim co-existing in the same environment.

We are a blueprint for world peace!

Richmond are Collingwood's tag along little brother.
They try so hard to be like the pies but most people barely notice them.

They are your mates so i hold u fully responsible!

Rubbish

Last year was an anomaly that probably won't happen again.

North were ZERO chance last year and the fact no team has ever won a flag form so low other than last year proves this.

Plenty of teams have made the 8 with zero chance of a flag.

My own team the dogs in 2015 proof of this

Dogs weren't your typical 7th team last year. 15 wins could get you top 4 in other seasons
