Who has been better throughout their career?

If Richo wins this poll it will be on the back of sentiment.

I love him as much as the next non-Richmong fan, but Lloyd has been exceptional over the course of his career. If he hadn't torn his hammy of the bone the other year, he'd have been an absolute monty to kick 1000 career goals. He still might do it mind you.

If Richo had a more stable temperament, which was manifest in accuracy in front of goal, I'd happily vote for him. But he doesn't.

Richo now but Lloyd over their whole careers.

Unless of course Richo has another couple of years like 08 then he might pass him.

How? a 34 year old doing what he does is amazing.

It sure is and overrated does not mean that he's shit. Richo's a great player but on the back of a couple of very good years he's being elvated to legend status by not only Richmond supporters but by everyone caught up in the Richo lovefest and imo he does not belong there.

Swap the teams that the two played in and Lloyd wouldn't even be close

Actually I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Lloyd certainly had delux service from '99 to '02 or '03. But since then, he has shown he can still kick 60 or 70 goals in an inferior team, as well as coming back from injury etc.

How can you compare a guy that has played full forward his entire career, with a guy that maybe spent about 2 or 3 years there??

Lloyd is a far better kick and has a better footy brain but has also played in a far better team. Richo was always a roaming forward and to have kicked close to 800 goals is amazing.Add to that his 200 out on the full:D
He may have played around 20 odd more games than Lloyd and be 100 goals behind Lloyd. But lets all be honest here, Richo at the Bombers for 14 years and under Sheedy. A 1000 goals easily!!!

I'd rather a character like Richo than a boring Lloyd. Richos role also involves much more than kicking goals.

Dont forget all the injuries he went through, including his knee when he was 27.3 for the season. He is all heart and is easily the best Richmond player in the last 20 years.

Plus Lloyd is a women.

Allow me to translate: Lloyd is a better footballer.

One was a champion Full Forward for a decade, the other was a failed Full Forward and forced to play on a wing. Lloyd easily.

Failed full forward who's kicked close to 800 goals and had 600 more marks than Lloyd.. there goes your credibility.

Stats dont tell the whole story.. but:

Matthew Lloyd:

252 games, 3303 disposals, 1600 marks, 891 goals, 397 points, average rating 80.7

Matthew Richardson:

276 games, 3854 disposals, 2210 marks, 790 goals, 538 points, average rating 82.2

http://finalsiren.com/PlayerCompare.asp?SeasonID=&SelectedPlayers=1088,21,&Compare=Go

But then you factor is who they both play for, passion, flexibility, injuries etc.. Richo is better.

Richardson may have more marks, but Lloyd is the better mark overall. Best hands you'll ever see at his peak (still bloody good now). Vice like.

You're joking, yeah?
Better kick I'll accept, but Richo is the best mark since Hart.

a) Give Lloyd the delivery that Richo has had, and see if he blows his nut occasionally
b) Give Lloyd the service Richo has had and see how many goals he'd kick.
c) Play Lloyd at CHF see how he'd go.
d) Play Richo on the wing see how he'd go
e) Give Richo Lloyd's service and watch the goals stack up.
f) Give Richo another decent, but not-so high goalscoring forward (Lucas), and see how he goes without the extra flood.

All in all, Richo.
