I agree our execution is terrible, but we take the least risk in the competition.

Maybe that’s because they know we don’t have the skills, but I’d prefer to live and die by the sword.

I think its clear since the shoot out vs Adelaide weve decided to defend with footy in hand and stop opposition scoring

Alot due to us defending poorly across the field with zones, but also because we have a slow backline which can be made to look poor if its an up and back game like we saw vs adelaide and then all the defendes getting ridiculed post game

Eventually you need to move on from the bandiaid solution though

The wheel is turning ever so slowly but once again it's the younger guys who are giving us moments to get excited about.

Clarke's 3 first half goals was great
Roberts continuing to grow, saw him put in some really tough contested intercept marks
Durham just played game number 81 but looked every bit a 150 gamer and led the midfield group
Reid in game number 19 put in another good shift unfortunately soured by potential injury
Martin in game 77 was clearly our best player

not a kid but some bloke called Zac Merret was wonderful again

If we can actually get something from our forward group then we might be a shot at moving forward. Caddy, Kako, Perkins all young enough with growth left need to improve otherwise mediocrity on the % front will remain until it is fixed

As bad as that looked, isn’t that broadly what a game against one of the dreadful 3 sides that are definitely below us should look like?

Massive positive tackle, tackle inside 50 and contested possession differential and plenty more scoring shots.

In the end the margin was unders because we were so banged up but that was pretty safe as houses, we pretty systematically broke them down.

I rated Kako highly as a junior and he has played consistently reasonable footy. At junior level he was able to get separation from his opponents it doesn't seem to be happening at AFL level.
Am I reading this correctly?

He has been good. Problem however is that the only other pressure guys he has near him are not up to it.

His biggest issue at the moment is that he tries to create too much when he should just take the first option.

19:27 to start the 3rd qtr gave a great insight to what is going wrong with our goal kick in defense.
3 photos from off my tv. As he goes to kick in it looks like we’ve got everything covered and no open players.
The critical moment. Caldwell follows his player into an area where we already have cover and his opponent is never going to get it, instead of rolling off onto board. Within seconds broad is on its own with no an essendon player insight, and takes an easy uncontested mark at the top of the 50. A simple Caldwell peel off onto broad stops this. Just small errors that make the oppositions lives so easy when they’re got ball in hand.

Forget the first games, how did it compare to watsons game today? The wizard has nailed the disappearing act, barely bothered the stats sheet with 4 possessions, 1 behind and 0 tackles.
He really is the Wizard!

BrunoV was right!

the wheels turning too slow that unfortunately merrett wont experience any kind of finals success with us(unless he takes whatever lebrons having)

has brad scott's style made players like langford/redman/hobbs etc worse? in 2023 i feel like from memory our transition from d50 felt smoother/quicker with players kicking the ball to langford on the lead with plenty of space in the f50(reason why he kicked over 50(?) goals). felt like redman was thriving playing the loose half back role too. i understand this was scott's first year coaching so was he just sitting back and watching without implementing his own game plan?

Bit hard to get the tackle count up when you're kicking straight to the defenders for an easy intercept.
Exactly. Watching the game there where periods in the game where there was simply no opportunity to tackle inside 50.
