Then he's sitting behind Kennedy at the other end of things, mostly out of simple minded fear and limited specialist coaching given for that.

Push is coming to shove and I'd rather Kennedy be the exiting player so we're not completely depleted as a team in 3-4 years.

Never been a huge fan of Kennedy. Again, he is an injury replacement player.

The problem with Kemp is that he is second only to Young as a bloke likely to stuff up the basics that defender has to have- composure in contested defensive moments. If he doesn't mark the ball he is very ordinary in one on one contests and has shown a tendency to panic and make fundamental errors.

Personally I dont see him as a defender as his natural inclination is to attack - why he hasn't been developed as a mid/flanker/HFF I don't know - maybe because list management hasn't gotten around to covering for perennially injured Marchbank/Williams and McGovern types.

Now put a ball on the ground and put Kennedy at one end and Kemp at the other - 9/10 Kennedy will win the ball or halve a contest. Want a player to find space and take a contested mark - Kennedy can do that - he is a smart footballer. Unfortunately Carlton is also burdened by carrying a bunch of between the arcs mids - who are not top4 quality kicks so their default is bomb it to Harry or Charlie or somewhere vaguely in that direction - the number of times Kennedy was in the right place at the right time and was ignored in the first two games ( if you could be bothered to watch) was ridiculous.

As for Kemp V Kennedy and the future of the list 3 years from now - I lost my crystal ball and might have to borrow yours Jimmae.

Marchbank probably a safer defender but not as mobile. Disposal is definitely on the dicey side.
Weitering too good to keep out, hopefully fit enough.
Kemp has enough tricks to be good elsewhere on the ground, if there's a spot.

Until we're 5 goals up with 5 minutes to play, I can't discount any side. Should be able to outrun their kids in the second half though.

Great ins , instantly makes our team stronger. Best team for the year and marvel is a pretty fast deck. I think the kangas will stay in it for 2.5 qtrs and we will run away with a 16pt win. Curnow 3 plus Mckay 3 plus !

Kemp will be back soon. He still needs to work on his one on one defending, composure, and decision making.

I think our best backline has him, Weiters, Marchy, and Gov all in there.
Agree, reminds me a lot of Zac Guthrie at the moment to be honest. Pre 2022 Guthrie was a bit of a liability for the Cats and frequently seemed to have deer in the headlights moments, get smashed in one on ones and overall just couldn't find the consistency needed to be a best 22 lock, despite the Cats continually investing games into him.

Kempy is 22 years old and still fairly slight for a KPD, 3rd tall. If he's going to spend his career down back then imo he needs to add on some more muscle and become a physical beast so he can match it with opponents in the wrestle. If he's going to try and be a midfielder/forward then he probably stays about the same size but needs to begin developing that part of his game in the VFL.

Personally I think he'd be best suited down back with the extra muscle, I don't think he's clean enough with his hands to be an inside mid and up forward his opportunities will be limited with Harry and Charlie. He's a great interceptor though and really just needs to be able to match it one on one to be an integral piece down back.

I think I’m on my Pat Malone here, but I would prefer Kemp in the team over Marchbank.

Bringing Weiters in strengthens our backline. Bringing in another safe defender like Marchy doesn’t make it whole lot stronger imo. Would prefer the attacking mindset of Kemp in an attacking game plan than Marchys mark, stop wait weigh up options style of play.

Our backline looks amazing this week.

Talls, interceptors, distributors, run & carry, defensive nous & crafty running silk.

This back 6 enables a brilliant turnover capability.

If the mids can find their mojo - our forwards should feast.
