See, I thought like y’all for a while, but I am doubting this now. Do you think the forward line would be this bad if we had a better head coach directing it? I can cop Faull fading in and out of the game, but kicking for goal is one of his strengths. Really puzzled as to why he’s kicking so badly. Sims was like this before the draft, but not Faull. Does Yze have what it takes to give players like this the confidence they need?
I do, I don't think any coach could do much better with our list at its current time. Also why is the head coach to blame here? Why not the forwards coach? Or is it the midfield coach because the delivery is so bad? From the outside we have no idea which coach is responsible for specific things like this.

Facts are we have an incredibly weak forward line. Lynch is our only established player in the forward and he has in his 30s coming off the back of being out for 2 seasons. One genuine target who is lost a step means our forward line is incredibly easy to play against and predict, you really just need to sit 1 guy on lynch and 1 infront of him.

And its not just the forward line, its our ball movement and use up the field too. We don't move it quick enough or well enough to catch defences out, so by the time it gets to the forward delivery the defence has already covered all the dangerous areas which leaves us to kick it high to a pack infront of goals or find someone very wide or very far out. Have you noticed how often we actually get a mark in the 15-30m out / 45 degree angle areas? Lately its never.

These issues just compound each other. Weak forward line means we can't move as quickly or as sure when we do have the ball as theres no good options up the ground so you have to second guess yourself or hold the ball up which leads to turnovers. It also means defences can safely gamble coming off players to help up the ground to stop our ball movement or double or triple team Lynch.

Also, I genuinely never saw our forward line this bad. Do we really need Taranto in the midfield over the forward line where he’s a proven goalkicker at GWS and Richmond? Some may say that we need Taranto in the midfield, but do we really need him there when he’s part of the worst midfield in the competition?

Putting Taranto in the forward line would not help if we can't get the ball to him. Hes also a career high 19 goals in a season which was his first year with us. His best at Giants was 13 goals or 0.5 per game (he averages 0.6 per game this year for comparison) Dont know where him being a proven goal kicking at GWS is coming from.

These are the questions I have, and they’re eroding my confidence in Yze. We’re a terrible side, but is that 100% to do with the list and absolutely nothing to do with Yze’s coaching? I’m not sure about that anymore.

I’m happy for him to stay on until the end of next year as he originally was contracted for, but if this keeps going well until next year, then we may have to prepare ourselves for a new coach. Just being honest here, because coaches have left for less regardless of what stage they’re in. 5 wins in 38 games isn’t looking good, and he wouldn’t want another season of this.

This is essentialy year #1 for the rebuild Yze. Last year was odd change over year where we looked to not fully commit to a rebuild which is proabbly a mistake in hindsight but whatever, we move on.

In a year that started talking about a possible winless year, we won a game in the first round, we matched last years win total in round 6 and passed last years total in round 9. We could have easily had 2-3 more wins on top of that too.
And that is after we lost Dusty, Grimes, Rioli, Bolton, Baker, Picket and Graham in the off season. 3 of those guys were #1, #5, #6 in our B&F last year. We have essentially been without Balta for the year too. No Gibcus either.

For all the guys we picked from the picks that we got for losing thoes guys, Lalor was fantastic but in the end only will play half the season, Smillie and Hotton havn't debuted yet, Armstrong got 4 games before he got injured. Only 2 of our 6 picks will play more than a half a season in the end.

So really what are you expectations here? Yeh we shit at the moment and the longer the season is going on, the worst its getting, but this is expected. Thats what happens to young teams and that is what we are. North is the obvious proof that a great coach can't just turn around a list on the spot. It takes time. North have finished with 3 wins, 4 wins, 2 wins - GOT Clarkson - 3 wins, 3 wins, 4 wins* so far. Yze will be coach in 2027 for suire. That is the year where we start evaluting the progress and expecting some significant improvements

Let me preface this by saying that I still like Yze as our coach. He provides us with a frank assessment of the game every week without excuses. But I just don’t think we should continue with him if we’re in the same position at the end of next year.

I get the injuries, but it gets to a point. Beyond that, I just think that it’s looking for excuses and finding it. There are still 22 players playing every single week. I don’t want us to be another North Melbourne and Carlton where there is always something “holding them back”. I want us to be like Hawthorn and Geelong who just get it done with or without injuries. Geelong haven’t had much of them relatively speaking (we can look into why), but Hawthorn were in situations where they had injuries. Not as bad as ours, but they had it.

For now, we’re not at the point where I don’t accept injuries as an excuse. I will still accept it. But I won’t at the end of 2026. If all he has to bring to his contract negotiations is 3 historically low seasons and excuses, then I simply won’t support his extension.

Not sure how you figure this. I count last year as a rebuild year because we forced to play lots of kids regardless of what the coaches intended.

As for what their intentions are: I've not seen our decisions around match selection etc. change at all since we were winning premierships. The fact that KMac and Prestia are playing means we're still just choosing the best 22 regardless of age. We stil have a focus on consistency and indeed Yze throws the magnets around even less than Dimma did despite having nothing to lose now.

So in terms of who we're playing and where we're at on the ladder, we're in year 2. In terms of coaching and list management decisions I'm not sure we've started the rebuild.

Based on everything the club has said and done?

Id rather be Richmond tbh. I don't really care how we improve or if we're slower or faster than other teams. We're on our own timeline, not there's.

And once again, don't give a shit about comparing it to history. Judge our own list based on their own merits. I'm not going to look at the list and expect more of them because I compared it to other teams with completely different lists. Makes no sense.

Yes, every presser he opens up with, we let our selfs down lol. Good luck to him has another year, then we go back to the drawing board, pushing us back another couple of years.

That wasn't a rebuild. Yeah, we were forced to play youth even though most were crap due to all the acl. Start of the season, it was all good for the 8 till it wasn't. As for playing best 22 humm ok. As for second-year rebuild, which is 1 btw 7 young players in all at once, and barring injuries, they would all be in the 22, not a rebuild? A for yze making less moves than dimma, who was a useless match day coach, well that doesn't say a lot about him does it?

Well it makes sense to me, so we’re going to have to agree to disagree
