Huge pressure on Collingwood fans for Pendlebury's 400th. Questions will be asked if they don't get more than 92K
It's going to be against Carlton lol

Well the bye has arrived and I hope that Yze and co have a good look at what we have to build a future around and start pumping games into them as well as putting into place the structure that he wants to see us play with come 2025.

First thing I'd be doing is sending Balta to the forward line. Sure he can intercept the ball coming in, but he is prone to brain fades that undoes the good. I'd like to see us trial Blight down back as he is more composed that Balta and just as good an intercept player. Give the kid a run of games to prove whether he deserves a contract for 2025. Let's have a look at a combination of Lynch Balta and Koschitzke up forward to see if we can counter the opposition racking up uncontested intercept marks. It's got to be worth a look.

Getting the midfield structure right is the next thing we need to sort out. Yze mentioned when appointed that he wanted us playing a strong contested brand and we just haven't been able to get to see it in effect due to the constant injuries. Taranto is back, Hopper should be back against Carlton, McAuliffe should be doing he apprenticeship alongside them with Dow. Those 4 will win their fair share of contested footy and get it going our way. One way or the other we will get answers about whether they're the group to take us forward. On the wings I'd be playing Hugo and Seth, both cover the ground well are accountable defensively and can use the ball well while adding pace to the outside.

As I mentioned above I'd like to see Blight come in to the back line to remove the brain fades that Balta does. Watched Blight 3 times now and his contested work is excellent, and his ball use is solid as he keeps things simple and plays within his limitations. Playing alongside Miller we'd have a more predictable set up, that wouldn't see us getting caught out of position because of poor turnovers.

So my line up heading into the Carlton game is:

Out: McIntosh Cumberland
In: Blight Hopper

B: Broad Miller Blight
HB: D.Rioli Vlastuin Brown
C: Campbell Taranto Ralphsmith
HF: Bolton Koschitzke Baker
F: Lynch Martin Balta
R: Nankervis Hopper Dow
INT: Mansell Short McAuliffe Graham Sonsie
lost me early when you talked about balta. the coach is clueless. we need a better reflective coaching team. game plan so static . bomb it and hope. need skilled players not dow. it could be exciting if uze takes some risks. he needs a heart to heart with balme. he will set him straight.

after todays effort from Bolton who is willing to stick their neck out and defend him he has been putrid past month I say trade him and be done with it

Said he’d never make it and you all laughed at me eh tigs2010

The prophecy is coming true

Tempted to get tickets and dwarf them like we did in all the years both teams were good
nah we should just tank the attendance so his 400th is infront of 35k

Hawthorn looked fitter with more run. Yeah it's partly the cattle and it's also that they have ex Richmond fitness boss Burge and we have the work experience kid Luke Meehan.
bennys turned into a loose unit

Something that the club needs to address over the next couple of years is the rate at which our opposition mark the ball:

Round 0 vs Gold Coast: 72 - 118
Round 1 vs Carlton: 69 - 98
Round 2 vs Port Adelaide: 74 - 107
Round 3 vs Sydney: 110 - 99
Round 4 vs St Kilda: 80 - 119
Round 5 vs West Coast: 92- 76 (Contested marks were 9-17 West Coast's way)
Round 7 vs Melbourne: 108 - 129
Round 8 vs Fremantle: 97 - 130
Round 9 vs Western Bulldogs: 76 - 119
Round 10 vs Brisbane: 66 - 164 (!!)
Round 11 vs Essendon: 77 - 102
Round 12 vs Geelong: 70 - 92
Round 13 vs Adelaide: 94 - 113
Round 14 vs Hawthorn: 109 - 120

As above, this has been an issue all season (even before our injuries got bad). We're 18th in marks by far this season (we are -392, West Coast being the next worst is -154) and are 16th in contested marking differential. Our players are struggling to take away our opposition's control of the ball. We had issues with our opponent's marking in our Premiership years, but the stand rule's introduction took away our counter to this. Hence, we actually need to find a way to reduce our opposition's air control moving forward.

I think this happens for a few reasons:
  • One is that we are positioned poorly off the ball. This gives our opposition the ability to hit targets by foot all day.
  • A second reason is that we're obviously bad in marking contests. It's both marking skill and positioning in contests. Most of our players are trying to mark the ball from behind the opposition player, and I don't know who's telling them to do that.
  • Another reason (and this is probably just by observation and not stats-based) is that we appear shorter than our opponents all over the ground. I don't know whether we are actually shorter than our opponents or just how we appear to play, but they seem too short to impact marking contests at times. Perhaps we need to bring in taller players all over the ground (not just taller KPFs, but maybe taller mids and wingmen too). Don't know if this is a genuine issue or just how it seems tbh.

Anyways, Yze and co have a lot to fix in the off-season, and this is one of them. This one's probably not going to be a quick fix, but we need to fix it before Tasmania compromise the draft.
Need you down to coach the lads, you've summed up the issues incredibly well.

Out positioning in general is diabolical, floss seems to be the only consistent player that hasn't dropped off, everyone else have gone backwards.

what could we realisticly get for him

hes not a matchwinner he stinks it up all season and plays 1 good game once a month

1 handed marking attempts, fumbles, shite kicking , missing easiest shots..

Would be a shame if there were "delays" on a few of the train lines on the night. I'm definitely not encouraging anyone on this forum to take one for the team and cause those delays. Not at all
If they just forecast rain a week out neither sides fans will turn up
