The reason i say it is because Prestia & Cotchin combined for 18 clearances to Shorts 2.
Short is the player a bit wide of the contest that mops up the ball, thought he was really good against Carlton. He is good in the wet as the ball tends to skid wide where his ground ball skills are really strong. Would be nice to have one more big bodies mid in the mix but not likely this season unless Ross has a massive turn around in form.

We’re missing another inside mid. Short has been good statistically but he still makes that one s**t show mistake in big moments. Really needed him to nail that inside 50 when it was a three on one. That’s what the very top players do.
That pass was too Clarke who could easily have reached it but for giving way to what he thought was Lynch on a hard lead.
In general his foot passing is pretty good and since being in the middle has gotten better, but he has one really good trait in comparison to say Cotchin. When Short picks up a loose ball under pressure his bang it forward kicks go 45-50m, very handy in the wet, Cotchin's go 30m.

Reckon Short is going a great job for the amount of time he has spent in the guts. But yes another big bodied mid would be great, especially if we make finals.

Agree the Clanger play was more a miscommunication than a poor kick. I think Short has been excellent in gaining yards from the middle but also has such a quick kicking action so can often clear the ball from a stoppage quite rapidly

I would keep MRJ as I thought he added ZIP around the forwards that were looking stagnant.
Yeah was excellent when he came on, added that manic defensive pressure that was missing.
Not sure he has the tank at this stage to play that type of game for 120 minutes, but think he could pressure the Cats backline which is pretty big and not that fast

💯 he can also bang it on either peg which makes him Impossible to read.
He’s been a revelation in midfield. Not all midfielders need to be contested beasts or clearance machines

hes a beauty isnt he,old fashioned blood n guts footballer who thrives on the contact,i know he can turn it over under no pressure at times
& its frustrating Af but overall hes just hard at it last man standing approach, the tougher the game the more involved he gets
What I find funny about Pickett is he heads into a contest and it looks like he has no plan. He is not sure if he will hold possession and absorb tackle, or handball or bump or crash through.

What a surprise. With all these stories about the weak AFL crowds, I started to wonder if our poor luck with dodgy umpiring might start to disappear.

within 2 weeks we have 2 of the most umpire friendly games i have seen us get for a few years. Funny that.

As i have been saying, i think the AFL has broken the glass which held the tiger within it & our luck is going to start changing again.

Turns out they need us more than they hate us
Always said the final contest of brute strength in the AFL Footy World would come down to between RFC and the AFL... ;) :p

Pickett crushing Cripps in the first quarter is amazing. I’ve watched it about ten times
Not a bad egg flip...though it did cost Pickett a bit...he ended up face/nose first into the turf by the looks of it...but still having a vice like grip on Crapps!

Watching the replay my favourite part was when Sylvani thought he was tough by shoving guys in the back in the middle of a mele when they weren't looking.
This is what the AFL need to crack down on, the whiplash from this can be quite dangerous and it reeks of cowardice.

Pre Covid watching the U18's, almost every free kick the recipient would taunt the guy he just tackled by pushing him in the back like this. Gutless campaigners thought they were tough doing it, and the clueless fluoros just ignored it and were more interested in setting the mark.
