Essendon 2000 and 2001- that team was so good, they could've been forced to play home games in Antarctica and still made the grand final. Subsequently rubbish. No finals win since 2004.

St Kilda 2009 and 2010 were the beneficiaries of generous draft concessions that don't exist anymore. In no mans land ever since.

Dogs won their fairytale 2016 flag.

And Dogs in 2021 when covid changed the rules of engagement. No crowds, finals outside of Melbourne. Arguably that shouldn't count for the purposes of this discussion.

North and Carlton were great in the 90s. 3 premierships and 5 grand finals in that decade. Since moving to Marvel, no grand finals in 25 years. And many wooden spoons.

Marvel is a graveyard.

Agree.
Some of us have followed this club since before Bassat & Lyon were even born.
We have injected thousands of hours and dollars into the club and seen well over 500 games. We rightly get angry on occasions and have a full entitlement to despair & to even leave without any judgment. We may return later but the scars remain. We probably care more about this club than some of the players.

Rational considered decisions to leave or stay are also made in the context of years of torment. How dare others judge us in a sanctimonous manner!

Because following St Kilda for a lifetime is like being teased & tormented by a lifelong partner who occasionally cheats on you.

The adulterer appears contrite and whispers sweet nothings into your ears.

Only to let you down time and time again on the footy field of life.

Other than Macrae, our other mids would be pretty hard to get it to, especially if they're focused on stopping another, better mid.

But it's a known limitation with Roh, isn't it? He's no Gawn or Ryder, physically. And if we had Neale or Butters or Bont in there getting it out, he might have to do a few less dump kicks.

Kind of justifies throwing some cash at a big Blue though, and I don't mind Roh forward for the structure aspect.

You have absolutely every right to complain.
It's not just the ineptitude but the fact we are just hog tied by the AFL so other teams get advantage after advantage. Even the corrupt free dps North get, the bs academy rules, the idiot FS rules, the pathetic draw year in year out.
We are there to make up numbers, we don't get any help like all the fake northern clubs, added to that top 4 teams get FS for free.
Basically I have had enough, I used to have a full membership with a reserved seat and a SC member for 25 years. This year dropped to a 3 game membership and next year, will contact the club and voice the above and won't renew.
The AFL take us for fools, I am slowly getting interested in RL again and watch more of that. Will watch the Saints but 2025 is the year that I think I have had enough of the farce that is the AFL.

I agree that the AFL is an incredibly poorly run organisation. Their incompetence, stupidity and lack of interest in running a fair competition is making it more and more difficult to enjoy the sport.

Yeah, and I feel like if you take out his snaps and goalsquare kick throughs, and look at his set shot kicking from a gettable distance, his stats might be less flattering.

Not that the snaps and groundball goals aren't valuable.

I noticed his hitouts as well!

I think it stood out more because of a lack of opposition, but Rowan doesn't appear to have any idea where he is directing the ball. Too often he hit it straight to the opposition with zero rucking pressure.

He was BOG but his tap work is second rate and TDK would be an improvement. If TDK arrives Marshall might even find himself playing a key defensive role.

Chito looks good when shooting 35m out or closer. If he’s any further out then he should always look to pass it off until such time that his long distance set shot shooting is up to standard. And for him I would define long distance as 35m +

Finally clunked a few marks yesterday, that has gone missing from his game of late.

If TDK still comes I would just ruck TDK 70% of the game, 20% rest, 10% forward. Marshall can play 70/30 forward ruck split.

Doesn't matter if it is not optimal, we just need some height and size ffs.

So which gun mid is available to us?

Basically most mids will be renegotiating contracts over the next few years and TDK deal will make it harder to bid for them. But right now, any of Harley Reid, Butters, Rowell make us far better.
Yes TDK offers incremental improvements but doesn't solve our main issues, like fumbling, missing targets, missing tackles, run and all the other things gun mids offer. Genuine Mids are our biggest issue at the moment.
My point is that on yesterdays showing, TDK is not much of an upgrade on Marshall

I totally agree, I'd be happy to move Marshall and Steele on. I'm not even sure Marshall was that good around the ground. He got the ball, but his decision making was pretty poor.

There are no leaders at our club, not one. No senior player was able to do anything to inspire the rest of the team to play above themselves and win a game - against a club who are so hopeless that the last time they won a game, Zac Jones had dreadlocks.

Zac Jones and Liam Stocker may not be the best players in the team, but at least they'd go down fighting. Ryan Byrnes another willing sort. Garcia will get there but still a bit young. Phillipou will get there but needs to be a bit more courageous, although maybe he was just following coaching instructions: I hope he gets to the stage where he demands the heat and has the guts to ignore his coaches, put the team on his back and toughs it out; he looks capable and willing. The rest are nice but no leaders there outside Wilkie, Stocker, Jones and Byrnes.

Steele had something, but it's gone and he's just a gop now sadly. Maybe he needs a fresh start somewhere else, no shame in that. We can't count on him in the engine room anymore though.

Don't tell me that the Eagles were spurred on by the Selwood stuff; they were spurred on by the fact that for any of the rare times we got anywhere near the ball, we gave it right back to them. I'd have to watch the replay but it seemed in the first half like we only had about 8 players, I didn't spot anyone else.

Not entirely surprising, our form has been so poor lately. I think we are a lot better than the last two weeks have shown, but whatever everyone says, I don't think the team is putting in a proper effort. They are panicky and hesitant or scared to attack. Is it a coaching issue? I have faith in Ross and co, but they don't seem to be doing about any of these issues, so maybe they don't see them. That is a problem IMO.

It's clear to everybody else that the team needs a jolt and a reset.
