What a wank. Make it sound like we got flogged by a spud team.

I'm assuming you don't want to make any changes/bring anyone in from the VFL? And I'll therefore assume you're labelling a stat 'a wank' because it doesn't suit your perspective?

No one knocking on the door?

I'm going to assume you watched neither the AFL (where we lost by 77 points to a team below us on the ladder) nor the VFL game (where 5/6/7 of our better younger guys led us to a win) over the weekend.
Watched both actually and the week before against the Crows when we played best football for a while. Dropping players for someone who’s not showing anything more is not going to improve the team

Geelong is the reigning premier that just got 3 premiership players back, including their Coleman medallist and a Norm Smith medallist. Not to mention they are rounding into health for the first time this year.

Acting like they are a run of the mill 8th placed team before last week is disingenuous at best, and you know it.

That's what they are saying.

Well no, there was no 'acting'. I never said run of the mill.

I said 'we lost by 77 points to a team below us on the ladder', which is a fact. That's what happened.

Also, the post I was responding to suggested there's 'no one knocking on the door' (from the VFL) and that 'you have to earn it' to play in the AFL side. A 77 point loss to any team in the comp proves guys in the AFL aren't 'earning it', it shouldn't matter if Geelong got 10 premiership players and 5 Coleman medallists back.

Facts without context can be completely irrelevant. Like your fact.

Fact is they're the reigning Premier, at home, back in to form, with closer and closer to a fully healthy list.

Where they sit on the ladder isn't as relevant as their percentage (4th in the AFL currently) and that they've taken a while to get going this season and thus are lower on the ladder than they should be.

But hey, let's instead take the out of context fact and have a melt about it.

There's no melt. And context can also go the other way.

Yes we're 8th - but we're also down on form, having lost 3 of our past 4, and are four points away from being 13th on the ladder.

Again - any team that loses by 77 points has room for changes, it doesn't matter who the team is or who they're playing.

Who said there was no room for changes?

You're the one who came wading in arguing that Geelong being below us on the ladder was somehow relevant.

What? Go back and read it.

I responded to someone saying there's 'no one knocking on the door' (in the VFL).

I said there's always room for changes and that there are plenty knocking on the door - who should especially be given a chance when the AFL side loses by 77 points.

Losing to a Geelong team below us on the ladder by 77 point is absolutely relevant to team selection.

Who's 'knocking on the door' that would realistically replace someone at AFL level? Baldwin was good, yes, and might come in for Laverde. Tsatas is going OK but his disposal needs work still and isn't going to displace any midfielders. Wanganeen and Davey have been solid but are against Snelling, Guelfi and Menzie who are all extremely hard working mature bodies that apply physical pressure and have been doing so OK. The same side that lost to Geelong also lead Port Adelaide at the final siren two weeks ago, and comfortably beat Adelaide last week. You don't just drop a quarter of the team after one bad game.

So we're down to arguing technicalities of what 'knocking on the door' means I guess. You seem to think there's half a dozen guys (5-7 you said) who should be given a chance after one bad loss. Realistically, who are they, who gets dropped, where do they fit?

Seems to me like you're really fixated on Geelong being below us on the ladder, trying to use it to make the argument that they're some kind of spud team. It was a bad call, people have called you out on it, you've got upset and keep trying to repeat it because it's a 'fact'. It's a bad fact, lacking context. That's why multiple people have told you it's a silly statement.

Any of Baldwin, Davey, Tippa, D'Ambrosio, Tsatas, Voss, Cox, Wanga, Montgomerie should be in discussions. I never said drop a quarter of the team, but I think one or two should be given a change now we know we're a fair way off it this year. To say there's no one 'knocking at the door' is not accurate. I'd be giving Tippa, Davey or Wanga a go for Snelling. His pressure/tackling is probably slightly above all of those guys, but his disposal/decision making with the ball is very poor. Voss probably deserves a go for Weideman.

I'm not fixated on the fact that it's Geelong, nor that they were below us on the ladder (though I don't think after 17 rounds you can say ladder position is totally 'irrelevant') - it's the 77 point loss I'm 'fixated' on. And giving the younger guys a chance when they deserve it. If the VFL side also lost by 77 points and no one stood up, I wouldn't be so opposed to no changes.

It was a wank statement . I would make changes because we got flogged. The fact that Geelong where under us on the ladder does not make them a side we absolutely should have beaten. Geelong are not a bottom 8 side. That is not my perspective . It is a fact. You can not use it in the same way as if we lost to Hawthorn who where under us on the ladder.

Ridiculous we have a 5 day break and Williamstown coming off the bye. Game at same time as AFL is dumb. Ik standalone clubs request to play AFL clubs when their game is on so they miss out on a few players bc of emergencies. Don’t know how VFL allowed this fixture.

Haven't watched enough of the game so I'm not ready to give final comments about our players.

I've got to say, though, that Geelong's spine for the future is looking pretty bloody good.

Whether Neale is their number 1 forward or one of the rare specialist second forwards/second rucks, he'll do a lot of damage with that bag of tricks he has.

I could hardly have been more impressed with that little cameo Conway had at the end of the second. He looks extremely mobile and quite powerful (though he is nothing like the finished product). His follow up of his own ruck work was very impressive as was his general coordination. He looks a very similar prospect to Tim English. Maybe not so athletic but more naturally physical.
