While I am also frustrated in Hill's output, you have to question why we are paying so much for a winger to not use him on the wing.
We've specifically chased players who are specialists in one position (hill, Crouch) and are now requesting them to be versatile.
If we wanted versatility why didn't we trade or draft for that. Could have saved alot of money and draft picks.

His job might not be to get the hard ball but doesn’t let him of the hook for applying defence pressure working hard both ways and putting the body on the line to help team mates out
I agree. He should be doing more.

play crouch on the ball for the whole game and let’s see if we can get that magical combination working.

Said it was a captains run and said morale and high spirits was important to any team.
Also said considering the mood, the performance was probably a shock to the players as well and that was on the coaches to spot the issues.

Anyway, not getting into an argument, the club disgraced itself and embarrassed supporters.
Ok.

To save others from having to go into every thread to see this negativity, not just from you but others, I'll just move all this stuff to the autopsy thread.

I don’t really care if he gets 0 contested possesions if he’s using those “elite” foot skills when he gets the ball.

If he’s not gonna set up goals then he’s gotta be doing the other stuff. Right now he’s doing nothing.
He got 100% disposal efficiency a week after getting under 50. I reckon if he had enough done better the week before we probably wouldn’t be talking about it.

Hill and Billings in the backline.
Crouch at HF.
Battle on the wing.
Carlisle omitted.

All whilst we're going with very substandard emergency ruckman.

They be smoke'n the crack pipe at coaching meetings..

We had that with Richo. Ratts found a way to move on from 18 guys running the full field and gave us structure with forwards staying forward and backs holding form in a proper grid. It's been picked apart and outdated and needs another rethink or results will continue to be sh*t. With structure you can pressure the ball carrier and not blow yourself up for no effect.

Chris Scott today:

“If you miss the paradigm shift, you can be left behind really really quickly,” Scott said.
“Let’s use Sydney as an example. The game’s changed, and those teams look sharp. We’ve got to find our way through this little patch at the moment, and then we’ve got to find a way to compete with some of those teams.”
He could just as well been talking about us.

8 kicks, 1 inside 50.

Can’t say I understand any defence of him this week after the fortnight he’s had.

Well, sorry if it’s boring for you, but if it helps getting it off our chests amongst like-minded individuals then go for it I say. We’re talking to mates.

The thing that killed me personally, is the enormous drop off between realistic expectation and hope based on last year, to an embarrassment of a team who’ll be lucky to get anywhere near the eight as things stand now.

This is our “Time to Talk” moment and space, and some just don’t get over it as quickly as others. All I’ll say is that if people are fed up reading about it, then don't read this thread and move on to next weeks game.

I‘m still mad and I’ll be hanging here a little longer with others who can understand and validate what I’m feeling.
Well first off this is in the wrong thread to begin with.

Secondly, this isn't other people's personal shoutbox. I could've deleted 200 posts and warned 50 people over the last 2 days with the abuse being hurled at player and club. I get people are pissed off. I'm pissed off. I'm keeping most of my stuff through private PM at the moment, realising that not everyone wants to hear me carry on for 2 days straight. People shouldn't have to put others on ignore or stop visiting the forum just because a few want to have a continuous whinge.

You just don’t get it . Applying pressure on the ball carrier and running from contest to contest is not just for athletes. It’s the basic fundamentals of the game. Work rate is everything . Game plans mean nothing when you don’t do the basics right. It was clear to everyone that were at the game what the main issue was. But you keep fighting against it. More power to you
That's right and if players dont believe in the game plan, they may start to think it is a bit pointless chasing tail all game while the opposition chips the ball around eventually getting thru your press and hitting up forwards on leads. True they shouldn't stop chasing, but it is fairly strange for 98% of the side to play so lacklustre at the same time. I'm sure it isn't because they all just got lazy at the same time - at least I hope it isn't. Tbh, I'm not sure, which of these I hope it is

you ain't obviously ever met Loewe.

The rest of your post was a reasonable read though.
You're right I haven't! And I only really used him as an example because we was a huge success story with improving his goalkicking, I guess it comes across that I thought he was dumb - not really what I meant.
These King boys are supposed to be pretty damn smart and excel at their studies. My point was just that you'd hope they could apply that to coming up with a decent technique or learning well from the right people. Doesn't always work that way, I know.

I realised it’s the wrong thread as soon as i posted 🤣 which is why I actually thought better of it and deleted it!!!

But you were too quick on the draw 🤣 and replied before it was deleted obviously. All I meant was that if people had had enough of the whinging, they should leave the Essendon thread and move on to next weeks one.

You take these discussions too personally.

We are talking about sport here and differing opinions on how we see it.

Much bigger things going on in the world, at the end of the day, sport is something most of us enjoy and we all love this team and want the best for it.
Plus at least one good thing about following the Saints is you sharpen your problem solving skills

There were quite a few changes to line up and roles/positions played.
Could the coaches have been trying something structurally that the players were not yet on top of?
The drop off was seismic, there has to be more of an explanation. Why does a whole team lose confidence and effort?
Could be just a simple case of the whole team getting plastered to celebrate Steele's 100th? They seemingly forgot to invite the main man

I know we lost Gresh but heard some great stuff from Ross earlier.

Our midfield isn’t that great and doesn’t just get it done, they are inconsistent.

Spamming the forum with it at every opportunity is boring.

We all know we played like sh*t, how many times do we have to read it for it to sink in?

Protesting until we play well again...well to be frank I don't think anyone here actually cares.
Isn't talking about how we played, what the autopsy thread is for?

Isn't talking about how we played, what the autopsy thread is for?
It was in other threads, and does it take you 30 attempts to get your POV across?

You’re spot on about the media. A good mate of mine from uni went on to get a PHD in sports psychology. He’s a Pom and worked for some time at the English FA when they tried to change their whole culture on the way they thought about the sport to be more in line with their continental European counterparts after a root and branch review.

From the report they did, they said the media and fans play a big part in why English football was behind at the time. Too much focus from journos on scandal and reactionary stuff like team A is lazy. That then feeds the fans. You see it on Facebook especially.

A developed sport culture has media and fans that look more deeply. I reckon AFL has come a long way in this regard and really enjoy this forum for instance: a lot of sharp minds here, even if we don’t always agree.

The media, though, still has a long way to go in AFL as it is largely an old player’s club. Most of the journos and podcasts I like from other sports aren’t ex-players, more smart journalists and fans that have a great eye and brain for sport. I mean fu** me, in the US there are plenty of coaches that were never players.
AFL media in Australia is absolute garbage, even basics like sub-editing are done in an extremely slipshod manner than leads me to suspect that no formal education in writing has been undertaken. Most run with the latest buzzwords and trends and provide little of substance. When was the last time you read anything on the official AFL site that was actually well written? Most 12 year olds could write to that level on a platform with a half decent autocorrect.

Ratts in the coach's message on the Saints site: "...they wear a St Kilda jumper and that wasn't up to scratch. As I said to the players, you better come ready next week because we can't have a performance like that and fall away like we did."

Seems awfully familiar considering in the pre-match presser he said we expected to respond from the Melbourne shemozzle.

That was weak as piss.

I give up.

I’m not trying to defend Hill just saying there are other players to focus on.
Anyway done with the argument. Keep him in the team, send him to Sandy. *, Send him back to Freo for all I care.
