Review Round 4 = Brisbane Lions 116-83 Collingwood

Brisbane are a good side and were always going to respond at the Gabba. Our defenders were totally outclassed by some fired up Lions forwards who have been piled into by the media. We seem to lack speed on the last line of defence. Cameron murdered us, and Rayner cashed in one of his good game chips for the year.

Every midfielder bar Pendlebury a long way off their best tonight. Hopefully just an off night. Crisp and Adams horrible. Our makeshift rucks refused to compete and that set us back from the get go. Going to be a rough few weeks until Cox returns. The good news is next time we face Brisbane we will have a ruck and improved structure.

Elliott needs a rocket up his ass. Been terrible this year, and Ginnivan kicks all 3 he missed. Ginni must return i don’t care if he didn’t carve up the VFL today. McCreery needs to lift.

Seems like sides do not miss set shots ever against us. Is it our fault on defending? Or is it coincidence? Meanwhile our set shot kicking is such a let down so often. Despite getting belted around the ground, the game should have been much closer than it was. We won inside 50’s and scoring shots. A lot of those behinds were gettable.

All in all we’ll be fine. Melbourne got belted by Brisbane, Sydney got belted by Melbourne. Good teams can have off weeks. The response will tell a lot.

Daicos is now outright favourite to win the Brownlow and fair enough. He’ll poll another 3 tonight. Unbelievable footballer.

That is the worst we played under Fly by a Country Mile.

Outside of 1st Qtr never looked like Winning - Got Bullied around the Ball by Lions.

Our Backline was not even there as they took so many Marks with no one 50 meters close to them

Delivery to Forwards where Horrendus with just Long Balls in Hope and They also did not Kick Straight

They Need a Good Kick up the Ass.

Only Good Players we had was Nick Daicos and Bobby Hill

Things are never as good as you think they are or ever as bad as you think they are.

After the last few weeks where the hype around us has grown, this result will now keep us in check and remind us we can’t take anything for granted.

Diabolical kamikaze defending resulting in endless over the back goals.
Small/medium defenders need to learn the balance between coming off your man, and making the D50 a harder place for forwards to get a kick.

Forwards wasteful for the second week in a row, if we don’t sort this out the next few weeks will be much harder.

Overall just wasn’t our night, the ruck issue isn’t helping but at least we can see our gameplan will get us enough opportunities to score.

Such a frustrating match. We couldn't kick straight, and our fwds seemed to have little chemistry. So many little fumbly mistakes too.

Considering we got monstered in the ruck and they played well, we still scored over 80.

Not too many postives, but i hope they go through some of the structures and figure out what we can improve.

Go Pies.

Okay, look.

We've never fumbled more. We set a world record for dropped marks under no pressure. We couldn't hit the side of a barn with our footskills. We kicked 17 behinds. We made the worst decisions I've ever seen professional footballers make. We had no ruckman. We got way too cute with handballs and tried to be Globetrotters. And IQ was directly responsible for more goals than the final margin.

That is the absolute worst we can play. None of above was due to Brisbane's pressure, that was all us, baby.

And yet we still had more inside 50's and more scoring shots.

That was absolutely torturous to watch, from Naicos missing the open goal, to Ash Johnson playing on to JDG when Bobby Hill won the free kick, to Crispy dropping a sitter 30m out with 3 mins left. We were a comedy show out there.

And we still could have won it.

There's potential through the roof with this team. Hopefully this loss gives them the drive to sharpen up, harden up in the contest, and pay more respect to the opposition. Because if we can play like that and still be in the game, we'll be absolutely incredible if we play well.

Just one of those nights.

Missed lots of goals we should have kicked, hit the scoreboard a lot (more scoring shots!)

Those centre square infringements where they got to have a free kick for 6-6-6 issues really sucked the wind out of us.

Need to solve the ruck position quickly.

Ok, not a great surprise, expected Brisbane to be better. Our goal kicking was poor but there were so many signs that we were off tonight.

Nic Daicos had a shocker by his standards.

So disappointed in McStay tonight. I really thought the coaches would have him primed to give us a shot out of the middle but he just gave up so many contests before the ball was even in play. He really needs to apologise to the team for that effort. It sounds stupid, but he does. He set an awful tone and gave Brisbane such a leg up. Ash showed what could be done with an ounce of courage and effort.

Pretty disappointed the coaches didnt pull a change in the ruck earlier too. Theres backing your guy in which Fly loves to do, but he sacrificed the other 21 players out there by continuing to back in McStay.

Its not all McStay though, so many others just were not present, Crispy obviously, took him about 8 possessions to get an effective one, Q was an abomination, Sidey was nowhere, Beau fumbled his way through every possession.[Edit: Elliot - FFS man, you are better than this, you dont make those stupid mistakes kicking to nothing, maybe get some goal kicking practice too, really costly tonight]

Hats of to Nick though, what a star. Pendles, Bruz, Murph, Johnny Noble, Chekers, Ash - you guys nearly did it, you nearly beat Brisbane with no help from your mates. [Edit: Well done to Bobby too]
