There definitely seems to be certain players getting KOTD with certain stats, though most of the time it's only Supercoach relevant where the KOTD is noticeable.

Was planning on trading him in this week and moving Murray to D7. Not exactly giving me great optimism.
Although I badly need some R12 players, and my defence already has Laird, Lloyd, Sicily and Yeo so Simpson seems like the only other one comfortably around that Top 6 defender mark even if his scores stink from time to time.
