G'Day all, greetings.

Was wondering who everyone thinks could be in the mix for a round one debut in the tri colours. I think obviously Griff would be a cert, Possibly Tippett as well but what about Pfieffer, Archard and McIntyre?

Cheers

Griffin would be my only ''new'' face.

My only concern with this would be if Kenny isnt back by then, we only have Griff and Huddo to ruck, and if one went down  . At least with Tippett playing we could have that back up, and play an extra tall in attack.

Some people go way overboard on the new guys. I hope Tippett doesn't debut... a year in the SANFL will do him good, he isn't ready for the AFL yet, he's still learning the game. Griffen looks a good chance. Pfeiffer, McIntyre and Archard no chance.

I'll pull a Craigy here and place no limitations on anyone because of experience or age. With this in mind Griffen is almost a certainty, while Tippett and Archard are in with a slight glimmer of a chance.

yeah i think Griffen is obviously a definite with Tippett a strong chance if we decide its too risky to have no back up to griff. Archard sounded impressive and might be in with an outside chance but i doubt it. Its gonna be interesting to see our 22 with players like dougie and knights pushing selection

IMO it's vital that these 2 are in our 22 every week barring injury.

Not only are they a big part of the future of the club, they're good enough to make a proper contribution now, and will only get better for the experience.

I agree Macca but consistency will be the key .....Dougie has had one great game and one shocker .....that'll be his season. Anything over 12 games for Dougie should be considered a great second year ....Knights should be aiming for a whole season.

I'd be surprised if Porplyzia doesn't play the whole season although he is seeming to a have a bit of knee problems ...same as last season??

Griffin has all but penciled his name in ....you can't imagine Tippett getting a game BUT that'll depend on how Perrie/McGregor come up this week??

Apparently both are ready to resume this week.

Can we have both Perrie & McGregor in the same 22 as well as Stevens & Bock ??

Who will make way for Knights & Douglas ??

Is there still spots available for both Bode & Shirley ??

Going to be very interesting to see what our starting 22 will look like for round one especially if Roo is available.

All 4 in the same side well NO unless injuries hit to other players. Not with Rutten, Bassett, Ricciuto and Welsh in the side as well.

The 3 key defenders look like being: Ben Rutten, Nathan Bassett and Scott Stevens (CHB)

And the 3 key forwards look like being: Nathan Bock, Scott Welsh and Mark Ricciuto (if fitness is permissive)

Ken McGregor may get a spot on the bench (unless he is moved to CHB) so Ian Perrie could miss out, unless Mark Ricciuto doesn’t come up for round 1.

Who will make way for Knights & Douglas ??

Someone will. Ben Hart and Hayden Skipworth....in other words, thats to hard to judge at this time.

Is there still spots available for both Bode & Shirley ??

Form permitting, of course there is.

Agree.

Re: Winged Crows

Looks increasingly like our R1 side might be as follows:

Bassett Rutten Torney
Johncock Stevens McLeod
Doughty Edwards Mattner
Burton Bock Thompson
Tippett Welsh Bode

Hudson Goodwin Shirley

Griffin Douglas Reilly van Berlo

Can't see why not, although a bit tall, but we did play Hentchel/ McGregor/ Perrie up forward serveral times. And Stevens plays down back.

I don't think we will play both at the same time.

Is there still spots available for both Bode & Shirley ??

Without question.

I dont think we will see Roo for at least a month.

No spot for Knights? Any chance Bode might be under the pump? Knights preseason has been better than Bodes. Douglas could take over Bodes role, and that would also give us more midfield strength. Just a thought.

Mathew Bode pre season form in games hasn’t been good enough for him to be assured of getting a game round 1.

Andrew McLeod to play in the forward pocket with Van Berlo or Mattner to play HBF (the other player on the wing) and Chris Knights to get a spot on the interchange bench.

Bassett Rutten Torney
Johncock Stevens Mattner
Doughty Edwards Van Berlo
Burton Bock Thompson
Tippett Welsh McLeod

Hudson Goodwin Shirley

Griffin Douglas Reilly Knights.

In: Knights

Out: Bode

But looks good, KT in a forward pocket is a good move

I think Douglas and Knights are both onballers and Bode is a crumbing opportunist forward. I personally don't see Knights and Bose as interchangeable in the lineup at the moment. The role Bodey is playing for us takes a fair bit of footy smarts to go to where the ball will be....and I don't think Knights is quite there yet. ....and I see Knights as just a tad behind Douglas ATM.

I was thinking of Douglas to take Bodes crumbing role, he has shown he knows how to kick a goal and can obviously play in the midifield. Knights in the side as a midfielder.

If Bode was injured that would be considered or Porplyzia or Vince. But Bode is fine ( apparently) and he will play

Re: Winged Crows

he's had aboout as much influence as Stiffy, Edwards, and McLeod........but I'm thinking they will get a gurnsey.....;)

I agree with your reply to Crow Envy (post 19) that Chris Knights could not produce the same results in a forward pocket that Mathew Bode does but Andrew McLeod could and NC has indicated that he could be played in the forward line this season.

That’s why I suggested moving Van Berlo to a half back flank (more than capable) and this would allow Chris Knight to get a spot on the bench.

Chris Knight should be picked before Mathew Bode (A) on pre season form and (B) long term he can offer more.

Players should be picked on form, not reputation

Re: Winged Crows

Those who are suggesting that Bode won’t be in our team come Round 1 seriously need to get a clue. Bode led the AFL in tackles inside 50 last year and kicked 32 goals and had 66 hard-ball gets. He is a crucial part of our forward line because not only does he kick goals but his forward line pressure creates opportunities for others.
