And rightly so. I'll tell you right now every Geelong supporter I know has completely agreed with Newman's sentiments about Geelong the past few years. He is passionate about the club and he knew exactly where we were going wrong.

He knew when we'd win, he knew when we'd lose. Of all the 'experts' on Geelong, Newman is the only one that ever gets it right.

Geelong knows it as well, they have a great deal of respect for him. The Cats have deserved to be flogged for years, this year he didn't, because he knew we were playing the type of footy he has been telling them to play for ages. Direct and attacking. Newman is a club legend.

I don't agree at all.

Newman's views have been of a simplistic pre-1980's approach to simply kick it long. That's all he says, "kick it long". He hates the handball yet Geelong, if not the most prolific handballers in the comp, aren't far from it.

He is an incredibly intelligent individual with a great mind for ruck work, but isn't a great thinker for the overall strategy of the game. If he was, he'd be courtered as a coach.

Theres a high percentage of football people that would make better coaches than most, if not all current coaches!
They just dont choose this as a job, not everyone wants to coach, it takes a huge commitment, time etc, etc, it doesnt meen Sam wouldnt make a good coach, if he chose to!

... If he was, he'd be courtered as a coach.

How do you know he hasn't been? Maybe not lately because of all this BS about how coaching "is a young man's caper" but I agree with most posts here that he has (mostly) intelligent and clever things to say about how the game is/should be played.

When you portray the character Newman does you are fair game.

I always assumed it's a character. Then my missus started working in a place where she has regular contact with him. He's actually like that. If anything, he's worse in real life. This isn't to say his views are/aren't valid, that's a different argument.

Sam acts like a complete & utter ******** on The Footy Show but his views about the game how its played the umpiring etc are spot on,i would think that Sam would be great addition for the rules committee, the game would get back to way we like it played without all those crap new rules that have been brought in!
Spot on mate! Like Sammy always says, it isn't the frees you don't pay it's the frees you do pay that puts us all off.

Sam Newman is an entertainer IMO. The Footy Show wouldn't be nearly as exciting without him and Crawf lol.

I remember that Sam has been disappointed in the way they have played in the past commenting they should go through the gut and kick long. Thats what they've done and they have won a flag. Simple advice that the Cats have finally done and won them a flag. Eveyone is critical of there team at points so don't say hes not a great supporter of the Cats :S.

You cant tell me the whole newman and crawford shannagans isn't just play and put on, It's not for real

Believe it or not there are grown men who act that way. I don't know anyone who has personal contact with Crawf but Newman is actually like that.

That caller got exactly what he deserved. In fact I am a little disappointed that Sam didn't continue on and giving him even more of what he deserved.

The little pencil head probably was the toast of Langwarrin (admittedly that is not hard) seeing as he contributed to Sam's axing.

FWIW I too think Sam is pretty much spot on with his comments about the game.

I have not seen or heard anything of Sam Newman in regard to Geelong's premiership win.
Was he at the game?
Has anyone seen him interviewed on tv or heard him interviewed on the radio?
Was he stoked about Geelong's win?

No, he wasn't there, he watched it from his docklands apartment with some mates (in between watching the golf on FOX)

Quality.

Sam Newman will never be coach, even if he would be good at it; he earns too much money sitting around doing nothing, no reason for him to become a coach just for lesser pay and extra stress.
