Akin to Abbott’s “sh*t happens.”

They can’t believe how smart they are, being brutally honest around the men.

When the camera isn’t there they are probably cracking jokes* about aborigines going walkabout, “Cape York time” ….. and … “time doesn't mean anything when you're about to have water lapping at your door".

[*We won’t mention the blue baby jokes around parents who have lost a child to cot death. Those are real knee slappers and piss off the PC crowd to no end.]
The characterisation of Abbott’s “shit happens” as dismissive rather than sympathetic is one of the more contemptible media gotchas in memory. If I’d been Abbott I’d have punched that reporter fair in the mouth.

Supreme Court derails Morrison’s bid to take over NSW Liberal Party

By Michael Koziol

Updated February 25, 2022 — 5.29pmfirst published at 4.09pm

Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s bid to take over the administrative wing of the NSW Liberal Party ahead of the federal election has been dealt a blow, with the Supreme Court ruling in favour of a legal challenge brought by a member of the NSW division’s executive committee.
The decision handed down Friday afternoon does not prevent a federal takeover but will put pressure on party officials to strike a deal to endorse sitting MPs and select candidates quickly in other key seats.
It takes a special type of stupidity when losing the polls to have an internal war rather than select candidates for key seats.

Would you have eaten the raw onion though?

We all have our ways of showing sympathy, but you have to admit that is an unusual way.

I have lousy social skills, but even my first instinct wouldn't have been to say that. Assaulting reporters also isn't a great look for a politician trying to win office, but that's another story.

I would somewhat understand if Abbott had an underlying condition influencing his behaviour ala Andrew Laming*, but there's not been any evidence of that displayed.

*I've mentioned before that I have inattentive ADD; Andrew Laming was apparently diagnosed with the hyperactive variant. I can actually buy that in his case, because ADHD turns your brain into a motor, and effectively makes you very impulsive in thought, speech and behaviour, so you can't think your actions through properly. Some of Laming's reported behaviour was not just inappropriate, but so plain thoughtless and bizarre, that I immediately suspected an underlying condition was influencing his behaviour. The ADHD diagnosis makes sense in that context, although I don't mean to excuse his actions.

This will definitely help Morrison and the Coalition polling. Some in here hope it won't, but it will.

It'll be a brief bump attenuated by rising oil prices, and judging by the indifference to ScoMo's posturing over China despite the hype, perhaps not even that.

Rising oil prices are more likely to have a lasting impact on AUS voters than some distant foreign policy affair, however much certain people and media figures are trying to make this ScoMo's 9/11.

However, I believe that the war might not last the fortnight. Russia has more or less neutralised the Ukrainian military and snookered the Ukrainian government via a US-style combined land, air and sea assault. I expected a short war, but I'm surprised at how sophisticated their operation has been. They didn't display this ability in Chechnya, Georgia, Crimea or Syria, so they must have used the lessons from those conflicts to plan for this over a number of years, before waiting for Ukraine to provide enough of a perceived provocation to respond in kind (defence treaties can be very open to interpretation, you see).

When Russia launches an ICBM at New York, I'll change my mind.

Depends how long it goes on, can't seeing it lasting long, unfortunately (or fortunately, spare lives) for Ukraine

I think war is a terrible thing, but it's best to get it over and done with ASAP.

If you don't, there's more chance of a Biafra-style humanitarian catastrophe occurring, and nobody wants that.

Albo can counter it though. He can announce if elected he will up defense spending.
After dickhead trump showed us what mutual defence treaties are worth when a ******* is grand poohbah, unfortunately we are going to have to plan our defence with out relying on the us.

Wouldnt be a bad idea at all.

Now stay with me here for a bit - what if labor says “we are going to up the defence budget by fifty percent as in these uncertain times blah blah blah.

Wait for the idiots on the ither side to chip in with “HOW YOU GOING TO PAY FOR IT LOL”

And snooker them with “by taxing apple, google and all the other thousands of multinationals (and locals) that pay zero tax. Turn it into a national security issue - its unaustralian to dodge tax - right now we need a strong defence force so we dont have to fight a war. Anyone who dodges tax is taking state of the art equipment out of our soldiers hands and leaving the country defenceless - dont you agree scotty?

That would pay for not only a better equipped defence force but there’d be stacks of loot left over for social programs!!

Imagine wedging the coalition on defence - how utterly delicious!!

John Howard met with Putin in Sydney in 2007 and did a deal to sell Australian uranium to Russia:

At the time Australia had approx 40% of the worlds highest quality uranium reserves so the deal was of significant strategic value to Russia and economic interest to Australia. As outlined in the Reuters article above, Howard told a joint press briefing that he did not believe Australian uranium would be put to military use.

How the world has changed.

Strange times we are living in....Maybe this Russian episode can get us all to put the pitchforks down and unite against real tyranny.

It sickens me that one lunatic can cause the deaths of so many people

Nah. I've never said "shit happens" when talking to friends and family of a deceased person, but I'm just some shit kicking lefty. Not the former PM of this country.

You know what... I'm gonna stick up for Bruce here for the first time in my life and I hate Abbott

I think Abbott's "shit happens"... he was trying to dumb down to their language but it was just so poorly done

I understood what he was going for

Albanese just needs to lean into Morrison’s already glaring weaknesses. Acknowledge Russia is a problem but point out Morrison is gaslighting the country if he thinks he’s spent years standing up to bullies rather than selling the Port of Darwin to the Chinese. And steady leadership IS needed in times of crisis, which rules out the person who ran from our bushfires and wasn’t prepared for any stage of the pandemic.

Nah unfortunately Albo is buying into the “can’t show disunity in a time of crisis” message. He won’t criticise anything Morrison does or says, Russia or China.

He wants to criticise him on domestic issues, but Morrison and the media will ensure they get buried in this campaign.

Albo doesn’t need to politicise this - he just needs Scott to keep talking and at some point he will **** it up the same way his ****ed everything else up
