I'm not entirely against religion but I don't need my prime minister spewing that shit out in his first speech. For those not already alienated he just took care of a big slice.

The pentecostals like Morrison are particularly disgusting and full of people who despite talking the talk, when given the choice between god and mammon take mammon every day of the week. Worthy only of contempt.

Notwithstanding scomo only has a slender majority, both in his own numbers and on the floor I believe the electorate which is deserting/has deserted them will want to see some tangible action, not businessa as usual and back slapping slogans

Ministers have offered their resignations or resigned. A clear sign from Morrison that he has more regard for the electorate than his own party would be surgery on the likes of abbot Dutton cormann cash. It’s not as if he’s actually sacking them. Abbot should leave after the next election. Dutton to the backbench where if he becomes a loose cannon it quickly becomes clear he is not only dangerous but dumb as well

If he doesn’t, the electorate will do it for him but it will be indiscriminate like a chainsaw not constructive like a surgeons knife

The feds basically fund private / independant education, the states basically fund public schools, so if you've got kids it might depend on which side of the fence you're on I guess.

They also fund universities.

The point I was making to the poster was that I believed Education and Health are bigger issues than immigration and defence for most voters.

My personal faith in Jesus Christ is not a political agenda. As Lincoln said, our task is not to claim whether God is on our side but to pray earnestly that we are on His. For me, faith is personal, but the implications are social—as personal and social responsibility are at the heart of the Christian message. In recent times it has become fashionable to negatively stereotype those who profess their Christian faith in public life as ‘extreme’ and to suggest that such faith has no place in the political debate of this country. This presents a significant challenge for those of us, like my colleague, who seek to follow the example of William Wilberforce or Desmond Tutu, to name just two. These leaders stood for the immutable truths and principles of the Christian faith. They transformed their nations and, indeed, the world in the process. Australia is not a secular country—it is a free country. This is a nation where you have the freedom to follow any belief system you choose. Secularism is just one. It has no greater claim than any other on our society. As US Senator Joe Lieberman said, the Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, not from religion. I believe the same is true in this country.

So what values do I derive from my faith? My answer comes from Jeremiah, chapter 9:24:

... I am the Lord who exercises loving-kindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things, declares the Lord.

From my faith I derive the values of loving-kindness, justice and righteousness, to act with compassion and kindness, acknowledging our common humanity and to consider the welfare of others; to fight for a fair go for everyone to fulfil their human potential and to remove whatever unjust obstacles stand in their way, including diminishing their personal responsibility for their own wellbeing; and to do what is right, to respect the rule of law, the sanctity of human life and the moral integrity of marriage and the family. We must recognise an unchanging and absolute standard of what is good and what is evil. Desmond Tutu put it this way:

... we expect Christians ... to be those who stand up for the truth, to stand up for justice, to stand on the side of the poor and the hungry, the homeless and the naked, and when that happens, then Christians will be trustworthy believable witnesses.

It will be interesting. Except for voting against SSM, I haven't really seen his beliefs affect his decisions to date.

I just don't get it... who other than LNP MPs and Senators even listen to Bolt, Hadley, Credlin, Newscorp journos. It's like an echo chamber. Why do these people wield so much influence when 99% of Australians couldn't give a toss what they think?

They only care about the latter when the first two are going OK

That was the workchoices kicker, they thought all their voters were had industrial clout so wouldn’t care about poor people
Forgot that their voters have kids who would then be ripe for expolitation

That’s the interesting thing, the ssm vote has laid bare the lie that the electorates such as abbots are deeply conservative. In fact the safe labor seats are the most conservative

It abbots electorate was given a small l liberal, they’d dutifully vote them in.

So as I see it, the electorate will still smash the coalition in May. But one faction will be wounded in numbers more than the other. If that faction can then purge the other, the party gradually goes one way or the other

In practice I can’t see the party splitting. It will go one way or another

We also had a talking head on ABC stating the ALP is going more left.

But if you look at the state governments at the moment they are fiercely moderate. Shorten is too. As mentioned in ssm vote ALP safe seats are some of the most conservative

In a way the ssm vote may have been the best gift from turnbull

Labour is less ashamed to show its union roots than in the nineties. But don’t confuse industrial struggle with left or right ideology.

It’s about contract law.

Scomo can’t change a lot in terms of ministry so close to election but he could put his money where his mouth is and kneecap a few crazies

As the 'alternative' candidate he had an opportunity to gain some ground lost. The public may have ( and still might) forgiven him for Bradburying the job but I think many might have turned back away.

He only needed to say ' I have a faith that has guided me through my life , it is personal but strong' then left it. But oh no he had to start preaching.
