No they don't.

Most people have no idea what is in the Constitution. A great many wouldn't know what the Constitution is.

Exactly.

99% of the time, you’d be happy to get “it’s Mabo, it’s the vibe...”

Fair enough. I just get a bit frustrated because it seems like sometimes people don't recognise what is the real issue is here.

"People are idiots" "People are selfish" etc etc actually works in the LNP's favour because it distracts from what is, by far, the #1 issue in Australian Politics.

It's the ONLY - the ONLY - reason the LNP are in power federally. Their partnerships with major media.

They know exactly how heinous a lot of what they do is to much of the electorate. Which is exactly the reason why they, literally, pay major media to run what is (for all intents and purposes) an ongoing PR campaign for them.

Make no mistake, the concentration of major media means they hold tremendous power. And they will do whatever they can to keep the LNP in power because of the financial benefits. It's a simple commercial partnership.

People actually lead busy lives (we can argue about why for the rest of time, but it's a fact) and don't dig deep into politics like some do - such as those on a political forum like this. They see what they see and are busy with other stuff the rest of the time.

Again... the LNP knows this. It's all strategy.

"People are idiots" - some are. Most aren't. There's just a very effective PR system in place for the LNP.

"Why the fu** isn't Albo running wild with this!!??" - he can all he likes. Pay attention. Watch. The major media ignores the Labor Party and simply doesn't air it. It only gives Labor oxygen when attacking it.

Almost every frustration people have with the situation can be sheeted back to this one issue.

Rudd knows it. He's dedicating a huge amount of personal effort to taking it on.
Actually a case can be made that the only reason the turds are in power federally is that Clive Palmer spent $60 million on anti-Labor ads. But that aside, totally agree.

cuts will be needed, but IMO these should be the four things done:

- removal of most (if not all) middle class welfare, no plasma tv grants any more

- reduce income and corporate taxes and eliminate payroll tax

- remove GST exemptions - now applies to all goods and services

- introduce carbon tax
Tweak neg gearing, no deductions for non citizens/non perm residents; limit to one per taxpayer; get rid of the depreciation deduction given you get tax relief for repairs etc and no property is actually depreciating in value

this is 100% wrong. I own 1 place that has gone backwards over 6 years, and another that has lost value over the last 24 months

the biggest myth in australia is that property prices always increase

Was listening to 774 yesterday morning show they had their political insiders (Bronwyn pike and john pesutto one from each side - its a regular segment). One of the callers made a scottyfrommarketing reference and john lost his sh*t telling the caller while you might have valid points he immediately stopped engaging once he heard the scottyfrommarketing line, as he could attribute the caller as partisan. Then tried to put onus on caller to “dial down the heat and partisanship “
Completely forgets that this is how the politicians and general media act, so why the fork he expects the public to expect and better is unclear.
Possibly explains how as a state liberal he managed to lose hawthorn.

I heard that as well - Pesutto is just another snowflake

In true politician style it was the perfect opening for Pesutto to completely ignore the substance of the argument and go off on some random and irrelevant tangent.

Liberals playing the high moral ground is standard media training

Even as a Labor person I cannot cop the QLD Premier. She just seems like a nasty piece of work.
She is laying it on real thick - the party machine tastes blood in the water and the election will be won or lost in QLD.

The other side would do the same but stinks regardless.

I new earlier in the week we were thin on the ground with Quarantine Hotel beds, now we are at full capacity.

The State Govs have no control on International arrivals.

Good on her for calling it.

Good on her for calling out Sco Mos lies around agreements from National Cabinet.

Oh don't doubt there is merit to her criticisms, what I am saying is she is putting a lot of political topping on this beef.

Which to RWNJs is leftist.
I'm trying to avoid the use of the term "leftist" because I am equally, if not more, offended by economic rationalists. So I say "leftist" and you'll just point to some "neoliberalist" as a "whataboutism" as though I support economic rationalism. I don't. So now I use the term "centralist".

Stop subsidising fossil fuel and mining, an instant 10 billion added to the budget

Resource Rent Tax, another 4 billion added to the budget
