Speaking to a very good friend of Alan Scott's and he believes due to age and health, he may divise his money into different investments before he dies because he believes his son could manage a part of the compnay, he doesn't believe he could manage the entire company.

The man loves his Port Adelaide Football Club but I reckon he would chose the financial security of his family before anything else...

Allan Scott AO, OAM is a name that has long been linked to the Port Adelaide Football Club. Now the relationship is set to go down in the history books, with Allan Scott being awarded Life Membership of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

Power president Greg Boulton made the announcement and presented Allan with his Life Members badge prior to Saturday night’s match against Fremantle, where Allan and wife Grace were guests of the club.

Life Memberships are ordinarily awarded at the club’s annual general meeting at the end of the year, but the club thought it appropriate to make the news public on Saturday night, given it was also formally announcing the establishment of the Allan Scott Player Development Academy in 2008.

Power Chief Executive, John James says Life Membership for Allan Scott is due recognition for his dedication to the Port Adelaide Football Club.

“Allan’s long term support and contribution to the Port Adelaide Football Club has been absolutely outstanding,” James said.

“Allan has been involved with our club since 1993, assisting us with our entry into the AFL, the building of the Allan Scott Power Headquarters and has been joint major sponsor since 1997. And just last week we announced he was supporting the establishment of the Allan Scott Player Development Academy next year.

“We are certainly pleased to be able to recognise Allan’s contribution to the club with Life Membership.”

The Port Adelaide Football Club has been referred to as the best football school in the country and now it has its own Allan Scott Player Development Academy.

Allan Scott will put his name and resources behind the Player Development Academy established to ensure the long term success of the Power. It will be formally announced tomorrow at the club’s pre-match function at which Allan Scott AO, OAM and wife Grace will be present.

The significant investment by Scott, whose name adorns the club’s training and administration facility and whose company – Scott’s Transport – has been joint major sponsor since Port Adelaide entered the AFL, is an acknowledgement of the changing times and the need to not only develop players on the field but off the field also.

Allan Scott has throughout his business and personal life shown a commitment to South Australia, developing leaders and outstanding people.

The establishment of the Allan Scott Player Development Academy in 2008 will mean the expansion of some current programs as well as introduction of others. It will involve various player personal development and career development programs. This will include induction and orientation programs, mentoring and leadership programs, young player workplace programs, and a range of community based programs with youth, schools, junior sporting clubs, and corporate clients.

Power chief executive John James commended Allan Scott on his vision and commitment to the club and its youth.

“Allan is a visionary,” James said. “He has achieved personal success in business and his commitment to the community, and through his investment in the Allan Scott Player Development Academy he is again leading the way.

“The Allan Scott Player Development Academy will ensure that we will develop not only quality footballers but quality people who can make a difference in the community both during their football career, and once they’ve finished.”

The sponsorship of the Allan Scott Player Development Academy will, among other things, see the Scott’s logo on the match day ball in 2008.

Allan Scott and Scott’s Transport has a long and proud history with the Port Adelaide Football Club. It began as major sponsor of the club back in its SANFL era in 1992 and joint major sponsors upon the club’s entry into the AFL. Scott’s Transport has become the club’s longest serving sponsor.

Allan Scott is the single largest financial contributor in the history of the Port Adelaide Football Club. His donation to help build the Power’s $4.5m state-of-the-art training and administration facility in 1999 saw the club name its new home the Allan Scott Power Headquarters.

Discussions regarding the joint major sponsorship property for 2008 and beyond are ongoing. The club does not expect to make an announcement regarding this until the end of the 2007 season.
