Medhurst leads eight inclusions

Paul Medhurst has returned to the side set to take on Carlton on Sunday afternoon

A squad of 25 has been selected for Sunday afternoon’s match against Carlton at the MCG.

Forward’s Paul Medhurst, Leon Davis and Jack Anthony have been named as has Magpie youngster Dayne Beams. Earning a recall to the senior side Ryan Cook, Ben Reid and Shannon Cox are named on the field with Cameron Wood set to take the ruck.

Paul Medhurst has recovered from an ankle injury sustained against North Melbourne in round six as has Davis who needed only one week to recover from an abdominal strain.

The club’s leading goal kicker, Anthony returns after serving a week suspension for head butting a North Melbourne player in round six’s win.

Tagger Ryan Cook was in scintillating form in the VFL on the weekend racking up 32 possessions. His inclusion could help to stem the play of Carlton’s midfield.

Reid has played seven senior games over three seasons and has developed his game to become a key position defender. Reid will notch his second AFL game this season after playing in round one's win against Adelaide.

Defender Cox has shined in the VFL in the last two rounds after playing in the first five matches in the senior side. Cox is averaging 22 disposals, five marks and three tackles in the senior side this season.

Since being traded to Collingwood via Brisbane in 2007, Wood has played 13 games for the Magpies and is set to play his first senior game in 2009.

Josh Fraser (knee), Dale Thomas (knee), Travis Cloke (hamstring) and Anthony Rocca (groin) will miss due to injury while Danny Stanley is omitted.

Team team will be finalised at 5 pm on Friday 15 May. Check the website for details.

snag has the pic so she beats me thread lol

Im glad wood is getting a run, but why must we only play one ruckman? seriously why?

also why do they have to keep lying to us about rocca? he played out lastw eek he isnt injured and 1 tall forward is a worry especially when the tall is anthony who as good as he is isnt a one out tall

and for those worrying it being a sunday game teh BF side will be out tomorrow

I bet Malthouse was cheering every mistake Stanley made against St Kilda so he could drop him. Dead set, give the guy a chance for more than a game?

Nathan Brown should be a permanent forward in this game. Carlton are lacking in KP forwards, Presti, Harry and Reid should suffice.

im sorry mate but beams is that much better its not funny

and if swan is fit stanley was always going to be the one forced out expecially given sidebottom showing form much faster

Anthony, Beams and Wellingham are certain starters for the bench. This means there is one spot between Macaffer, Cook, Toovey and Barham...

So the odds of Toovey getting dropped are quite good. I'd say Barham would most likely keepm his spot. I would have liked Bryan to come in for L. Broqwn who has been terrible the past few weeks.

OHHH MYYYY GOODDD!!!

Whilst you've got to be happy with the inclusions of Reid, Beams, Medhurst, Davis, Anthony, Cook, Wood and Cox, you really need to question how the **** did Leroy Brown and Alan Toovey keep their spots?

Whilst we all rate Wood as a promising ruck prospect, he cannot go at it alone. Leroy Brown is rubbish back-up and Wood will fatigue. We were better off bringing in Bryan to at least help Wood in the absence of Josh.

Also, Pebs' ommission could spell the end for the big guy. We cannot afford to just "gift" him games every second/third week. As for Danny Stanley, his career is certainly over with us after being dropped.

Whilst Reid has been named on the HBF, I have no doubt he will go forward with Jack because we look thin for talls on paper (Leroy is rubbish).

going by that side, we're clearly too tall down back, and too short up forward. i wont read too much into how they're lined up as they may have different plans.

i'd expect to see reid or n.brown move forward.

much would have rathered bryan in over l.brown.

this doesnt fill me with confidence...

yeah i was thinking along those same lines

the inclusion of reid means one of brown, reid etc have to play forward probably leigh brown too. They cant all be down back

this is going to be a hard week i think

Re: Team for round 8

Ah, Jesus wept, L Brown at CHF, have they got a barrel of chimps picking the side down at the Lexus

there must be a mistake , how the f#% is leigh brown still in the side, wtf is wrong with rocca now, i thought cox season was over ?

Cox with a broken whatever is probably more useful than anyone else available tbh.

I have to say it, I don't think we should bother with Rocca anymore. At his best he is so important, but he can't put more than two games together. One game back will probably be him getting used to the tempo once again, the next game he won't pull up fit. Time to cut our losses imo. Give him a final match as a farewell match, as he deserves it. Let him announce his retirement before a game, let him play it and send him off.

I actually prefer Leigh Brown in the side to Chris Bryan.

Made the right choice in Cameron Wood, and Ben Reid has to play now, or our forward line will be full of miniatures.

Hopefully Meds, Swan and Davis come up.

My final ins would be;

Anthony, Medhurst, Davis, Wood, Reid.

Give Beams one run at VFL level to collect 30+ touches, then bring him back in.

Don't thin Cox is any chance, just named him as a reward for effort at VFL level. And by the way, Collingwood said that Cox went to hospital after the VFL game, but he only had bad bruising on his leg, meaning no break.

From the I/C, it's almost certain that Jack, Beams and Wellingham will be in the selected 22.

The last spot I think is between Barham and Cook. However, it would be great if Corrie was omitted.

Personally, I think Cook has deserved his chance.

Macaffer is stiff and a really promising prospect, however we have the small/medium forwards area covered so we need to go with the extra runner.

Also, at least Toovey's chances of being dropped have improved dramatically.

Re: Team for round 8

Reid will have to play forward this match... surely. Or Nathan Brown. We can't just have Anthony, with Leigh Brown rotating in with Wood.

Usually the players named on the field play-indicating Cox will play.

The bench players are Anthony, Beams, Barham, Cook, Macaffer, Toovey and Wellingham. My guess would be Anthony, Beams, Barham and Wellingham will play.

Other than the glaring hole at CHF that looks like not too bad a side on paper .
Wood as the only ruckman is crazy though , Bryan should be in too .

Line-up would look a lot "straighter and promising" with either Reid or Nathan Brown at CHF as opposed to Leroy.

Also agree with Bryan being more useful as a back-up to Wood than Leroy Brown.

Toovey should stay in. Say what you want, but Eddie Betts has been in good form. Who is a better chance at stopping Betts than Toovey? Genuinely, who?

Reasonably happy. If not with the entire side, happy to see a few younger players that need to cement themselves in the side.

Wood has his chance here. He'll spend a lot of time on the ground. Take it son.

Reid also needs to impress. I think we'll see him played up forward for the best part leading to the wings.

Anthony one out at full-forward.

Beams straight back in for me. Wasn't showing any signs of slowing down, he's had a precautionary week off when he could almost play.

My prediction is an interchange of Anthony, Beams, Toovey and Wellingham.

Barham will be the other player that would be biggest chance to retain a spot.

yeah didnt see Cox named, you are probably right.

Reid, Wood, Medhurst, Davis and Cox all seems certain to come in, and you think Jack Anthony would be a certainty too.

That means at least 1 more player needs to be dropped from last weeks team, either McCaffer or Barham would be my guess, more like McCaffer.

So final ins might be;

Reid, Wood, Meds, Davis, Cox, Anthony

Outs: 4 injuries, Stanley and McCaffer.
