Anyone else notice we tend to have a lot of players attack the ball relying on spread once we get it, but and especially in the finals when we didn't get it, we had no one on the outside and the opposition always had a player or two waiting outside the contest to either receive or shut down the spread

I also noticed in other games every other side had one or two players going past to move the ball forward as fast as they could. Our mob oh well.

Still can’t believe we started Smith on the ground.

So Smith was a better option than Bond? That would be a no.

We lost it coz Nicks is clueless when it comes to strategy. He has always been a defensive coach, it is why we generally are 4-5 goals down over the recent years but fight back to lose than less than a kick or so.

He wanted to win the minor premiership thinking it would ensure we make it deep into finals. Well because it kept to the same 26 or so players for the season (inc the likes of Smith and Murphy) we ended up where we are now.

I watch most Adelaide home games. I think there's a lot of harshness towards the coaching.

4/5ths of your midfield for finals was ROB, Peatling, Berry and Soligo with Rory Laird being called on out of necessity. Even if Dawson was Dusty Martin, no one is coaching a team with that midfield to September success.

A focus on defending the ground was the right game plan for Adelaide. A low transition game which makes aerial contest and brilliance in congestion more significant was the way to go. You've got a lot of hard working, hard running B graders and your strengths are aerial contests and the brilliance of Rankine and the kicking and overall game of Dawson. I don't think you could have gotten it down with Rankine, but without him you were cooked.

You need a better midfield to go from good team to September success. Either recruiting, significant development from Soligo/Berry/Peatling or Draper/Curtin coming on as top midfielders really quickly.

Granted it was 4 more than we should have.

Last year when we lost to Richmond and he went off his nut, he blamed everyone bar Matthew Nicks.

I think both Dawson and Rankine can win Brownlows as midfielders. Soligo is still only 22. I don't think he'll ever be a star, but he'll continue to improve. Curtin and Draper have potential. I do think you need some brute strength in there.

But hey, we nursed Tex to 300 games

Tex was one of our best in that match. He kicked 2.3 and looked good and kicked 39 for the year. I think he is one of the few players you nurse to their 300th. He is such a vital part of the club. Also I don’t know who could have replaced him.

You don't lose 8 qtrs of football in 2 home finals after finishing top without multiple points of failure.

I think the rankine stuff really sapped our energy. We need to be better than that, but we weren't. Nick's coaching and selections questionable. Leaving daicos free at the start of the game was stupidity. Put berry on him. If you have daicos free and berry free who do you think will do more damage? You don't need to be a genius to figure that one out.

Players not performing. I hope thilthorpe was carrying something because some of his efforts were trash. I think keays was used to try and fill in for the rankine role but couldn't get anything going.

Curtin looked good for a young guy in his first finals campaign. Laird was decent as well as was Milera. We relied on Milera a lot coming out of the backline but also delivering to the forwards. He was the only one who could hit a target against hawthorn going inside 50.

You don't win a Showdown medal and nearly a 2nd one being a B grade midfielder, Soligo's best is clearly up there but he need to get AFL fit which he isn't right now. Dawson didn't look 100% heading into Finals, he had to have someone helping him to take the focus away from well coached Finals sides and Soligo was himself cooked so it was easy for them to lockdown on Dawson.

A lot of people seem to be glossing over just how bad Keane was tonight.

He got Gunstoned! Could have easily kicked 8 goals, he did miss 3 easy ones.

O'Brien was clueless, lack of focus at the centre bounce, just random taps blindfolded. Fogarty was awful but did not get much help.

The better team won.
