Dogs have not had a home game at the McG since roughly 2006. I reckon North would be the same.

2005 for us we played 2 home games there-against Collingwood and someone else (Hawthorn?) if I remember correctly.

Fair enough then. Would be a joke for either to have to host a final at the G then.

Crowd at the Sharks v Roosters NRL finals at Shark Park last night: 12,567

Whilst the brand new Allianz Stadium, which holds 50k, sat empty 25km away.

Is this what we want for the AFL? Finals are meant to be a showcase of the league not just another home and away game.
Nobody goes to NRL games unless it's origin though.

All clubs should get to play on their home deck. It's their reward for finishing higher than their opponents and they should get the advantage.

Also, I don't care if supporters can't get in to the stadium as it's smaller, tough tittes.
Wouldn't it be a better atmosphere to have a completely sold out Marvel Stadium vs a 40% empty MCG anyway?

Nah. But they should get at least one mcg home game during the h&a season, like how the MCG tenants have to play 1+ home games at Marvel.

Yes they should.
We should have the right to host 11 home games at Kardinia Park along with any home finals we earn too.
Thanks.
Geelong choose to have home games in Melbourne because they have more supporters in Melbourne than they do actually in Geelong. Geelong will always be home at Kardnia park, but this is something the club wrestles with.

Against a low drawing interstate side - absolutely

Based on the attendance at the Saints v Giants game, Crowd: 68,465, you couldnt even rely on that assumption/statement nowadays.

Should they have been given the option of their preferred home ground? Same question goes for all other Marvel tenants.

Not sure Marvel is suitable for finals these days, the capacity limitations would see a lot of club members denied ticket access.

Yep was a good crowd. St Kilda v Bulldogs Prelim in 2010 only got 63K

Indeed, in 2010 both clubs combined had a tally of approx 72K members, this year it's 116K. Marvel probably could still work out now for a tenant v GCS in an elim final

In the case of situations like Saturdays game, an elimination final against a lower drawing interstate side, I see no reason Marvel tenants like St Kilda should not host the game there.

Elims and semis in the case of Melbourne based teams should always be at that teams primary home ground, unless they choose otherwise.

I feel like it was a disadvantage, because we don't play at the MCG more than 2-3 times a year and never have. The 'G is significantly wider than Marvel, which obviously has an effect on our game plan and probably suited GWS more. Is it why we lost? No. But it could have played a factor in why some of our players looked so lost at certain stages of the game.

I would hope the club stands it's ground in the future and asks the AFL to honour our qualifying to host a final over a bit more profit, they already had two sell out games at the MCG, surely a Marvel final wouldn't have hurt the back pocket that much?

Within reason - every club should be able to nominate their ground of choice if they’re the home team, regardless of the round.

Yep, it's not like the old days where 40,000 members was a massive amount - Collingwood had about 30k members barely 20 years ago. The number of club members has grown exponentially in the last few decades, whilst ground capacity hasn't increased by much at all.

If we're going to sell memberships in large numbers with the pledge of easier access to finals tickets, that must be honoured. The alternative is that we can no longer sell club memberships with this as a benefit, which may affect sales of these memberships in the future.

And the mcg tenants should all play geelong in geelong.

You get a great deal - you can come 8th and play a 1st placed etihad / geelong team at your home ground come finals time.

No one should play Geelong in Geelong. They should just drive for one hour and play in front of a bigger crowd every week without wasting billions of taxpayers funds.

Far out you mcg queens are spoilt.
For real?

Does that not sounds logical to you? Geelong gets bigger crowds and the taxpayer doesn't get ripped off?

Sounds like a win for everyone.

Yeah im sure them and their fans are just dying to travel two hours return as opposed to just rocking up to the local.

That must be why they keep upgrading it, its a reverse bluff and the afl keep not getting the hint.

Stoopid gil

Yes because all Richmond, Melbourne, Collingwood and Carlton fans live next door to the mcg. 🤦‍♂️

I think this comes up every finals. It should be home ground. And yes, if Geelong are highest placed they should get home finals. That is the reward for finishing higher.

But I think the AFL work their way around this by saying its a home state final so they can move Marvel tenants/Geelong to the G.

home ground gives you the best chance of winning which increases your chances of advancing further into the finals
and maybe winning the premiership which is what all fans want.
