Danger game this one.. port have a lot of their good/best players out injured or in doubt..

What normally happens in this case is the team thats left either lifts and plays with heart and intensity... or rolls over and cops a flogging..

If ports player do the former and lift... it could spell trouble given the game we had on the weekend because it would’ve taken alot out of our lads.. might struggle to bring the same intensity with only a 6 day break..

Broadbent in for port. Annoying as it gives them more composure in their backline which was diabolical on Friday night (was there watching it, humourous)

How longs he been our for? They don't have a good record of returning players in showdowns.

We still seem to be sputtering along with plenty of players out of form and too many "less than physical" types - Gibbs, MacKay & Atkins.

We are really missing Brown, Doedee & Seeds but with the 666 Brown and Doedee out has been the big worry.

On the positives, Douglas and Sauce out has been great for us. Dropping an out of form JJ and Gibbs was a small step in the right direction but still a step - shame Gibbs came back too early.

If I had to put money on he outcome I would select Port by 10-20 points.

Go Crows.

From Port rivalry thread:

"Since the club chugged tri coloured goo in the wake of the Phil Walsh tragedy to me it feels like we just concede to them time and again.

That image of Kochie with his arm on Chapman hasnt left me since I first laid eyes on it."

Some of those people are simply despicable.

If Port win good on em.

Missing Jonas, Wines, Ebert, Dixon, Hartlett and us in some good form.we.really should win quite well.

Milera, Seeds, Doedee, Douglas, with a fit Brown and a fit Showdown specialist ruckman Sauce to help out ROB would also be pretty handy for us.

Will be great to get Seedsman, Milera and Brown back over the next few weeks but shows why it's so important to sneak Jones and/or McHenry in for some games now.

Will only get harder later to do so.

I remember that time clearly on here. It was "d*** measuring contest" as to who should be mourning more for their supporter base.

Yes but Port can bring in Polec and Wingard.

Ooops.

Is it worth revisiting naming it the Walsh Medal for best player in Showdowns?

At the time KT said that sometimes it's easy to leap into an emotional decision in the aftermath of a tragic event.

We're a few years down the track now. Walsh is still a PAFC Life Member. It feels right to me

Much more time needs to past.

Their supporter base is still very bitter and salty about Walsh leaving them to coach us.

I am not so sure. What the game against Freo showed was that defensively we were very sound - it was up front that we missed chances before half time. We then cracked freo in the second half but still stayed strong defensively apart from a small lapse that cost a couple of goals at the start of the last 1/4. If we can go into the showdown with that sort of defensive toughness then I think we will be fine and i would back our mids to beat theirs and our forwards to cause them more trouble than theirs will us

As we know, anything can happen in showdowns and the fate of the rest of our season can’t be determined by winning or losing one, but hell, I was already tipping a comfortable win for us before Port’s new outs, so losing this is not an option. If we blow it, I’ll be done for the season...(until the next game at least 😁)
