Thats why Freo got rid of Jess he always use to give the high elbow occassionaly.

Didn't he get rubbed out 2 or 3 times while playing for the Dockers for head high incidents ?

He should get 5 for tonights incident .

"Tried to protect himself"? With an elbow to the temple? His arm was fully bent with the elbow pointed directly at Picioane's head. And he was moving, too. THat's not "protecting" that's "I'm a low, cheating piece of scum trying to stop the Hawk's run-on by making the game stop for the stretchermen".

AS a Roos supporter, I expect him to get three to four weeks and be lucky it is only that.
Hopefully he learns his lesson.
BUT - AND I AM NOT DEFENDING WHAT HE DID - I think it is a bit much to be calling him a sniper and such - this is not a regular occurrence but the frustrated act of a man whose season had just disappeared.
He hasn't be doing this over and again 0- in fact he's been on the other end from Chad Cornes.
I think he realised straight away what he had done and was feeling very contrite.
And I certainly don't think he did it to stop the game - good grief - it was a spur of the moment thing that he regretted.
Hawks fans have every right to be angry - as I was about Cornes - but should not be going overboard.
After all, Leigh Matthews and Neville Bruns? I think that was a kinghit behind play...

Running, off balance, saw Piccione coming and tried to protect himself. Sounds ok to me - reprimand.

Protecting yourself is giving an elbow to the temple.

Actually he had a history of it at Fremantle... several times he threw elbows at players... in the same way he did tonight..... in derbies especially.

And how many times has he done it at North - none.
Was overly aggressive at the man when he started his career and that was a problem, but he seems to have curbed it and has done nothing of the sort in the last three seasons.
Hardly the only bloke to get fired up in the odd derby, either, and that includes a few Eagles.
Still doesn't make Jess a sniper.
But again - he deserves three to four weeks for what he did tonight. NO DOUBT.

High horse, methinks.
Sniping indicates he does it regularly and deliberately. Try and back that up.
I've said it in both of my posts. I called it a sniping ACT.

Act being singular.

The sweet smell of September......... blood on the pitch
Sinclair 5 weeks
Stevens 4 weeks
Archer veiwed but let go
What happened to King tonight, timing out.

Just seen it.

A deadset dog act from what i've always considered a fair footballer.

Weak Jess, weak.

There were many other cheap shots from Kangaroo players who began to take out their frustrations on the Hawthorn team.

Is this the new shinboner spirit?

4 to 5 if he pleads guilty!
And he was lucky Vandernburg didn't connect or he might have gone to hossy too :)

That was friggen pathetic.

I don't think its the new shinboner spirit i think its jess trying to please dean by not being "too pretty"

CIK, interesting to see your "warped" view of footy again, lol

Poor old Jess will get 4 or 5 I reckon.

It WAS in the play, Picioane was coming in to make a shephard, while his team-mate was driving down-field. Jess had just been beaten at the contest, he wanted to make a strong statement.

None of this excuses Jess' actions, he took out Picioane illegally, he'll cop a heavy suspension, doesn't make him a Pit Bull mongrel.

He will cop somewhere between 3-5 I think, but IMO elbows are something which the AFL should really frown upon like spear tackles in Rugby League.

The amount of damage which can be done with an elbow like that is insane.

Many kickboxers (globally) wont fight full thai rules for that reason alone. Heck, there are two main MMA (No Holds Barred) promotions in Oz, and only one allows elbows. These are pro fighters. Sure, footballers dont know to use em properly, but the opponent usually cant protect himself either, ie last night.

Pet hate of mine seeing elbows used like that. Lance is lucky it didnt hit him properly.

Should get 4-5, it was a very stupid thing to do and should be punished accordingly. A swinging elbow to the head late and unwarranted isn't showing any 'shinboner' spirit its just cowardice and not what Laidley wold've been hoping for.

SOme pretty ordinary incidents from the Roos last night, Stevens and Archer should also come under scrutiny. Stevens to get 2-3 and Archer to get let off because when he does stuff like that its considered tough and courageous.

He will get 8 weeks. AFL hates negative publicity and the site of a guy with that amount of claret all over him will put mommy of letting little Paulie playing footy. He will get taken to the cleaners.

Stupid thing is you would probably describe Sinclair as a soft **** and he goes and does this?

Enjoy your holiday Sinclair - it's all been said already. Has to be 4-5 weeks.

What really sh*ts me is a guy can be knocked unconscious off the ball and it's play on, and then North get a charity goal because "tough man" Archer does a Matty Lloyd.

Good riddance Roos - Shinboner spirit my arse - Leigh Colbert is the only player who can hold his head up high this morning.

Stevens was a disgrace - what leadership.

He was off the ground, elbow to head.Umm, should be at least 5 matches.

But Laidly did want the Roos to be more agressive, he got what he wanted. I would be concerned if I wa shim in them choking, they were ahead and then lost it.

Controlled agression is osmething they have to learn, not thuggery.

Umpire Coates you should be ashamed of yourself, dropped to the country for a period of time for that disgraceful decision.

I presume you are talking about the Everitt-Archer one? I keenly await Mr. Combover claiming it was "forceful head-high contact and the umpire was completely justified in awarding a free kick".

I think 3 weeks. He will probably get the same as Fleming. I think some people are getting a bit too excited about what happened. Yes, it was a bad incident but I dont think 6 weeks or 5 weeks is the right penalty
