Not to be pedantic, but the wording for the marble game was 'win' the other players 10 marbles. Given that Sang-woo DIDN'T win them, but rather stole them AFTER berating Ali for cheating was horrible. Smart by Sang-woo given he was down to his last marble to devise a strategy to stay in, but taking advantage of Ali was gutwrenching for mine, given he cheated the system and game essentially. He was the only player to progress that didn't technically win his marbles.
Gi-hun didn't technically win his marbles either if that's the case. He told #1 a lie to get his marbles each time then was given the last one. That's not important though.

My main thing is when people in shows are beyond reasonable levels of stupid, I have trouble feeling for them. Ali giving any thought to sang-woos plan was stupid. Actually handing over his marbles, was so far beyond stupid it's ridiculous. It was just a weak point of the show for me. Obviously others feel different which is OK too.

Oh boy. Something came up on my fb and I was gob smacked. Watch episode 2 again and think about what happened to the main characters eventually. Pick pocket held a knife to someone's throat.....she copped a knife to the throat, Ali stole his money back....he died because his marbles were stolen. The thug escaped by jumping off the bridge...he died falling off the bridge and so on. Wowee!
Gi-hun swore on his mother’s life. When he got back, his mother was dead.

Pretty dang solid show, just binged it over 2 nights and it will be with me for a couple days.
I enjoyed the character development during the "slow" parts and whilst there were quite a few cheesy and cliche events they somehow felt natural within the context of the show.

Wowee. Knocked over in 2 nights.

That show hits you like a truck. Constant high level of tension is something else. The focus on the characters makes things hit so much harder than movies like Hunger Games or Saw.

Not sure how a Season 2 works without retreading old ground. Netflix obviously won't leave money on the table so will see it regardless.

Old M8 and Gi Hun share drink and his noodles, then later with his marbles!

Just finished. Absolutely terrific series, immediate top 10 of all Netflix series I've ever seen. Compelling acting (from the Korean ones anyway) and a couple of episodes (you know what they are) are great examples of stellar television from start to finish. Excited for S2.

Loved it although thought the ending could've been slightly better.

I was surprised/disappointed that they didn't go further into the red minions. How/why were they recruited, what was enticing them to stay (they weren't in line to win all the money), the differences between the shapes etc.

Apart from that though, it's a great watch.

I’d say that is an area they’ll explore in season 2, if/when that happens.

think you may be right. or a spin off at a later stage.

Questions that must be answered

1. How did Jun-Ho keep his phone going for days without charge?
2. Contestants are brought to the hall after being changed. Some beds are 5 levels high. How did they get up there given they were all asleep?
On the first point. I'm assuming he had it turned off most of the time. Only turned it on for a couple of minutes at night to record notes, and then to shoot the videos at the end.

Squid Game is sensational. Fantastic character development and all round acting. Sth Korea are really bringing out some decent stuff and you have to wonder how long it will take for Hollywood to remake it and good luck trying to better that.

The Marble game was just brutal for all the wrong reasons.

10/10 IMO.

I watched the Marble game episode last night,
I thought the sequencing was exceptional. Having all of the players become so robust about forming teams and working together, and then BANG, you must select a partner for the marble game and the entire narrative changes.

Updating my resume now. If they offer a dental plan I'm in.

LISA NEEDS BRACES

One question I had after the final episode - How could the host have communicated with the front man if he was in with the other players?

thats a good question. obviously after he "died" it was easy, but before....unless everything was pre planned

I may have missed the explanation but the woman who missed the marble game for being the odd one out of all the pairs, why did she survive?

they said something before the game about you've all been disadvantaged, here we treat you all equally etc, so they were never going to remove the one who missed out.

Great show.

We watched it dubbed cos my mrs can't read and watch at the same time. Usually can't do dubbed but thought this was pretty good.

I was surprised with the final episode/how it ended, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

The biggest question for me was how did the old man get up there, with all this medical equipment and nothing else in this room, and who was supposed to be looking after him? And why did he die bang on midnight?

Have just started watching it through again, and it's definitely one of those series that you view it very differently knowing what you do.
Some things stand out like dogs balls the second time through.

I imagine of them is...

player 001 being genuinely scared during the purge night and the staff immediately coming in once he said he was frightened for his life
