"Pre-season training at West Lakes involved up to five weights sessions a week under the watchful eye new strength and conditioning man Nick Poulos, and included both players and coaches.
Almost everyone recorded personal bests in the various tests of the strength, with Jason Porplyzia proving to be No.1 in the bench press and squat - an amazing result. He's built like the proverbial brick outhouse, but dislocated his shoulder in round one of 2011 and missed the rest of the season.
Taylor Walker lived up to his billing as a power forward by ranking first for deadlift, bench pull, and the clean and jerk."

got some numbers but they're likely outdated as they're from 2009-2010

Bench Press:
dane swan - 145kg
brett deledio - 145kg
daniel connors - 150kg
luke mcguane - 150kg

Deadlift:
luke ball - 195kg
tyson goldsack - 230kg

the collingwood boys are mostly very strong for afl players, they get trained by marty girvan who i think still competes in powerlifting? the players will have 1 or 2 days dedicated to heavier weights, squats, deads, bench etc. then they'll have conditioning and speed training on separate days. something along those lines anyway.

Porplyzia has that ideal physique, short broad limbs, which are kind to power lifting.

Interesting how you could measure the 'strongest player' though. You get a Tom Hawkins size guy in a wrestle with Porplyzia, I'd say he'd handle him with one hand behind his back... He'd have 20kg on him. Kgs on a frame makes a huge difference.

Podsiadly is reportedly strongest player at Geelong
When Stephen King first joined the Bulldogs in a coaching capacity he said the same thing. Benches & deadlifts more than bigger guys. Beast

By Sanderson.

did sanderson sign nick poulos? seems the whole team has gotten huge since sanderson arrived in late 2011 (?)

the powerlifters seem to be the best s&c coaches, collingwood have girvan and they're all very strong now.

mick hibberd from frankston switched to getting his s&c training from a powerlifter and he gained strength, size and increased speed and agility quite quickly. next minute he's at essendon.

Are we talking about players from clubs that have used performance-enhancing drugs, or players who have developed their strength without chemical assistance?

Maybe Daniel Rich can squat 5x175kg, but he has a trouble keeping his feet and has very little physical presence in the midfield. I realise this is off topic a little, just pointing out that his squat strength is arguably irrelevant.

He's narrow in the shoulders and doesn't look steady on his feet. Look at Gary Jnr and Pendlebury as examples of guys who are extremely hard to push around or even get off balance. They stand up in tackles and still hit handball targets time and time again... I'd even throw Daniel Kerr into that bracket as a guy smaller than them all, was like a rock.
