  • I think that's a fair assessment from Horse. If we're expecting a 36yr old to dominate our scoring we're in trouble.

  • Daily Media articles will be added as they appear during the day.

Not much hoopla on a round 1 debut for our recruits - Konstanty is on watch though for making an early debut in the season

Chad & the Swans feature at numbers 24 & 22 respectively.

Swans are the 6th most expensive membership

  • Swans Daily Media:

Not much going on today media wise - there's a heap of articles regurgitating the who is paid the most articles from 2022 - not linking to those as there's nothing new in them.

    Meanwhile, Heeney makes Menzel's list.

Heeney our best player stats wise. Make of it what you will

The Herald Sun have created a list of what they call the underexposed U23 Talent. Its a bit disengenous what with the inclusion of new recruits but whatever. Looking at it I'm filled with hope for the future, some local lads and some interstate talent to get excited about.

    17FEB23: Luke Parker Interview/SEN Sportsday
  • Article relating to Luke Parker interview on Sportsday.

    Interview link; from yesterday.

Name checks Amartey as a potential fwd option along with Logan.

Couldn't stop Geelong's momentum in the GF with a lot of young players.
Players & coaching staff discussed the GF and the lead up to the game. Referenced Geelong's 83 pt loss in the PF 2021. Moved on.

Never really considered leaving prior to signing last contract (amid Essendon talk).

Confirmed Blakey back on training track, likely to play in pre-season game v Brisbane.

Counter-attacking is the way the game is going, rebounding from defence/turnovers with quick transition.

BRISBANE V SYDNEY – MATCH SIM REVIEW

    HB MEYERS·FEBRUARY 25, 2023
    AFL SEASON 2023
A powerful run of five straight goal in the third term gave the Brisbane Lions enough separation to score a win in their match sim over the Swans, but it was the way the Lions were able to squeeze their opposition and deny them the corridor that will please most Lions fans.
Though many consider these games to be meaningless, there were plenty of take aways for both sides as they tried a few different lineups and had some interesting debuts to keep an eye on.
As always, The Mongrel covers the ins, outs, and points of interest.

Hijacking your original post SGBeach , to add some further articles xxx Ticky

  • 28thFEB: John Longmire interview/RSN

  • report on RSN interview with Longmire.

    On Buddy;
Sydney coach John Longmire has told fans they will have to be patient with Lance Franklin, who he says will take some time to build into the AFL season.

“It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to say we don’t expect him to play every week, every minute of the game … at 36, it can be a real challenge to do that,” Longmire told RSN’s Breakfast with Harf program.
“He’s had a bit of a restricted pre-season – he only played a half last week.
“He hasn’t been going at full power through the pre-season, so the plan is to build him up again this week, and it will take a few weeks for him to hit his stride.”

Talks up Campbell's and McAndrew's prospects
Young halfback Braeden Campbell, who was the medi-sub in the grand final, and 209cm rugby union convert Lachlan McAndrew were named as two players Longmire could see breaking into the senior side in the early stages of the season.

“I’d like to see the continued development of Braeden Campbell. We think that he’s played a bit of footy for us now but we’ve seen bits and pieces of him, and we’re really looking forward to him coming on,” Longmire said.

“We expect with Tom Hickey at the moment having a calf injury that (McAndrew) will certainly be looking at some game time at some point early in the season, and that will be great for Swans fans to see as well.”

McAndrew, who led the Swans’ ruck division against the Lions, was benefiting greatly from working with a fellow former rookie-listed player in Dean Cox, Longmire said.

Mod note: hairy biker I've removed the Herald Sun link and added the Swans website link which also contains the podcast interview.

  • Practice match reviews:

I wish I could post something from SEN this morning but as per normal when we play a big Vic club its all about the loser and not about the winner.

Thank goodness we've got the Mongrel Punt to have a look at. Article is locked and a reminder - do no repost the content from the locked article.

  • Sam Reid
When Sam Reid succumbed to an adductor injury in the preliminary final against Collingwood, the Swans' season pretty much came to a standstill. Sydney not only watched a seemingly unassailable lead whittle down to one point, but the next week the club – which mistakenly played an underdone Reid – was utterly humiliated. Reid may be 31 and prone to injury, but when he is fit he provides so much structure to Sydney's forward line. At the other end of the ground, defender Tom McCartin is equally as important. He's only just turned 23 and week in, week out plays on the best opposition forward, allowing his brother Paddy to float across packs.

NB Dawson was one of three for Adelaide, Darcy Cameron #1 for Collingwood and Aliir named as Port's most important.
    Rohan didn't get a mention.

    Mod Edit:
    Warning: Dawson trigger ahead

    and
Only 2 Bloods captains from the Bush? Surely not.
