Going nuts on the bolded headings Dave.. keen :thumbsu:

It would probably be better if you reduced the size of you headings a touch Dave. It makes them harder to quote.

Why did Beams did not have a Shot for Goal after the Final Siren vs the Dogs?

Something like that might be better.

Thanks for the Idea for Heading

I disagree with Lockyer being depth... he kicked 32 goals last season, and can be relied upon for his accurate disposal and the fact that he'll kick 1 or 2 a game and set up another 2 or 3 directly.

Being kept lout by good form by senior players at the moment yes, but solely depth, no. He's still in our best 22.

I disagree, Tarkyn is no longer in our best 22, which is a great indication of the depth of our list.

I love him, and would be happy to see him in the side - but when our full list is up & running I can't see where he would fit in.

Not surprised if you disagree, given your username!

I don't get the fanfare on BF about Brad Dick, and he'd be the one likely to displace Macaffer, and I find both of them behind Tarkyn in what they offer the team.

Personal opinion, though, so there's a slight chance of bias.

Thanks - Poor Cats fans thinking it was about GA;)

It kind of is... since their drawcard is going they have to up the standard of the ground to entice people to go along

Will Dawes play vs Melbourne?

I do think he is a Good Chance to play. Come in for Fraser and put L Brown as 2nd Ruck as he could be similar type to the Dees Ruckman Jamar

I think Dawes will get a game in the VFL before he is considered. The fact he missed last week in the VFL and Brown did so well means he wont get a gig.

Leon Davis had a Week Off after poor form and he came straight back in

Leon is much more important to us though mate and after the previous week where the pressure in the fwd 50 was crap he was a monty to come in. Dawes wont come in since Brown did so well, well you would think anyways.

Fraser's returning from injury.

I don't understand the propensity of some posters to jump on and off bandwagons weekly.

Dawes' form was mediocre so he was dropped. His replacmenet, Leigh Brown, had a solid to good game (and that's being critical) against the Bulldogs in the role. Replacing Fraser with Dawes doesn't give Brown the opportunities he deserves based on recent form, and is gifting games to a player who I can only assume was dropped for a reason. Add the fact that Fraser is returning from injury and needs a bit of game time himself to get back to 100% and it doesn't bode well for Dawes (or Anthony) to come back into the side.

Personally, it's a similar dilemma to a hypothetical Lockyer for Medhurst situation... Medhurst was woeful against the Dogs and additionally Tarkyn has the runs on the board with his consistent form in the VFL, despite only playing a half in most outings. That said, Medhurst's capabilities, in addiition to the fact that he is returning from injury lay-off and may need a week or two to "get his groove" means that I am not in anyway advocating Lockyer's return at his expense.

I do believe the next small in line has to be Lockyer though, there's only so long you can keep a seasoned campaigner out of the side before he loses touch playing in a competition beneath him. He wasn't exceptional by any stretch of the imagination while he was in, but the eight weeks he has served outside the team is the result of (largely) good performance by those already in the side, and not a result of indifference from himself. His poor games (St Kilda and Hawthorn) were partially the result of i) Poor coaching in the St Kilda game, playing a veteran dearly lacking pace in a backline up against a very active forwardline, combined with the fact that the player's greatest asset, footskills, would've been much better utilised in the forwardline where we kicked 4.17, and ii)His own degeneration with age. That said, he was mediocre against Hawthorn and that was no one's fault but his own.

I don't think Leroy was no Better then Dawes has been

I get the feeling that the club would like to see both JA and Dawes play together in the 2s almost like N.Brown and Reid did in the 1s for a few weeks to have them both on the ground at the same time to do a direct comparison to give a better idea of who is the better option. L.Brown did enough to validate being selected again, but Dawes/ JA would be my preference come later on in the season.

Fraser if fit will play no.2 ruck.

To be fair, you were glasses with a darker rose-coloured tint than I do when I watch Lockyer when you watch Dawes.

Leroy was, as I mentioned before, solid to good last week, and you can even argue favourably beyond that. Dawes was struggling in the seniors, and on the basis of their most recent performance, Leroy was superior to Dawes. Thus, you can justify Leigh Brown's position in the senior team.

It doesn't matter if you don't think Dawes won't learn anything in the VFL (which is a rubbish perspective to have anyway, because at the very least, if he isn't in the senior side there must be at least one perspective of his game that is in critical need for improvement), Brown is outperforming him based on current form, and is likely to benefit even less than Dawes if he continues to play VFL. We can't simply have a 22 of TD's favourites and ignore the needs of the other 22 blokes we list. We have a squad of 44, possibly more blokes, who are all expected to do their bit to help us perform at lour optimum, and ultimately it is the job of the head coach to balance the advantages and disadvantages of playing players in their respective AFL and VFL squads. It is not the coaches perogative to play one player in order to aid their development (or perceptions of development) at the detriment to the rest of the unit. If it was, I'd be more disappointed because it isn't a process that I believe will achieve the end of winning the premiership cup, which is what they receive their (large) salaries to do. The best thing Dawes can do is go back to the VFL, work on his deficiencies, and continue to put pressure on the senior squad to perform. I'm backing the selection of Leigh Brown for now, just like I'm backing the selection of Davis despite a player who I'd felt previous to the match against the Bulldogs languishing in the VFL with what I'd considered superior form in Lockyer. Malthouse will be considering the opportunity cost of every move he pulls, or fails to pull, more than most people on this forum could fathom. You may not agree with them, but in the end, his handsome salary is paid to get us across the line, and I find it difficult for anyone to dispute that isn't exactly what he is doing.
